As a recorded genre of music, country music is now “officially” 102 years old. So you see how far I’d have to go back to have a countdown with NO country music on it. Here’s country song #2 on the list, and this one isn’t nearly as well-known as the Roger Miller song. So Linda? NO!!!!!!!!!! and here we go.
I Don’t Love You Anymore - Charlie Louvin
Bill Anderson, as a young, relatively unknown singer (whisperer ), was on tour with Ray Price. One of Ray’s band members, believe it or not, was Roger Miller. (On that tour they wrote “When Two Worlds Collide” together.) Price had a joke about one of his band members (not Miller, although he later fit the bill ): “He’s not drinking anymore. Of course, he’s not drinking an less, either.”
It doesn’t take much to set a songwriter’s mind into overdrive. Anderson took that joke and wrote this terrific song. It was the first solo hit for Charlie Louvin after he and brother Ira quit performing together. It’s still one of my favorite songs by Charlie.
Oh, the other “title” song from the album, “Less and Less”? Roger Miller wrote that.

Written by Bill Anderson
Recorded by Charlie Louvin
From Less and Less and I Don’t Love You Anymore, 1964
I keep saying o’er and o’er:

That kinda reminds me of the twist behind the title of "He Stopped Loving Her Today". By George Jones, I think?

George had a lot of good puns in his songs. My favorite is “I Sleep Like a Baby”: “every night I sleep just like a baby, I wake up every hour and cry.”

Not like it’s a new joke…or like it was new when Ray Price said it in the 50s.

Thanks for the warning, although the album cover already told me "NO!". Have a great day.

Bill Anderson also told the story about having dinner with some friends, and at the end one pushed himself from the table and said, “I’ve enjoyed as much of this as I can stand.” SomBill wrote a song with that title.

It's fascinating to dive into the history of country music and see how it has evolved over the years. "I Don't Love You Anymore" by Charlie Louvin, written by Bill Anderson, is a gem from 1964 that may not be as widely recognized as some other classics, but it certainly deserves its place in the country music canon. It's interesting to learn about the creative process behind the song, sparked by a simple joke from Ray Price's band member during a tour with Roger Miller.

I’m glad you liked it. I know country music, especially country music that old, isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
