Hey Dude, They Aren't Hey Dudes

Hey Dude brand shoes seem to be the latest thing, and have been for a while, and people are willing to pay a pretty penny for them. Of course, that's not me. I prefer to hold onto and keep my money whenever I can.
My wife's cousin found some on sale the other day and bought two pair. Even on sale she spent around $50 a pair for them. As such, they came up in conversation when we had our cookout with the fam on Saturday.
My nephew observed my shoes and quipped, "You've got a nice pair of Hey Dudes I see."
"Buddy," I said. "These are $20 George shoes from Walmart." I explained to him I have never paid $50 for a pair of shoes, and rarely spend more than $20 for shoes. So long as they fit and are comfortable, I don't care what they are called. But it goes to show you also often can't tell the difference.
Besides, if people are focusing on your feet, perhaps there are other things to be worried about. Why are you looking at my feet anyway?

Although I've never heard of Hey Dudes I would have smiled at the compliment that your Walmart shoes were mistaken for brand name ones.

@porwest absolutely. It would be funny though if you were wearing fancy high priced shoes and someone asked if you got them in Walmart

@NJChicaa Yes. They. Are. No shoe is worth $50 when I can go to Walmart and get a pair for $20. Especially when the shoes were made in China and Indonesia, probably cost $3 a pair to make and were made by a starving 10 year old who works 10 hours a day for pennies.

I have to replace certain things because of this evil spirit so have a very low budget and he does not live here but follows me everywhere from since he forced my scooter and us out and then he decided he could get others to do his dirty work and cause us more trouble and he does too. So what I am saying is it is hard to save when someone latches onto you and will not let go and has no life so wants to destroy yours.

I have to be kind of careful about the shoes I buy now, since I broke my ankle I can't have something putting too much pressure on the ankle, and the arch won't take hardly any. In short, the left foot is pretty much malformed and unable to take "normal" shoes, so I do a LOT of looking and won't spend more than $10 to $30 for shoes. When I come in the apartment, I kick my shoes off and go bare footed.
When I was in college I tried an experiment, I would tell strangers that I liked their shoes, and 9 out of 10 people would look down at their feet to see what shoes they were wearing. I did that with 100 different people. It was fascinating.
I can't see paying huge amounts of money for something that is going to either wear out or go out of style quickly anyhow. Plus, a lot of shoes end up in thrift shops with never having been worn, you can tell by the soles.

I have small feet and I get calluses on my feet. So I can't wear certain shoes. The Hey Dude shoes do look cute, but it's not for me either.

I am tough to fit and I need comfortable shoes; so I normally spend around $65. BUT I've been wearing that same pair of shoes for several years. I don't go out much; so they last a long time. Have a good day.

@porwest I feel that $65 for a shoe that lasts several years is an investment in yourself. I don't have a problem with that.

@LindaOHio Not for me. I can buy a pair of shoes for $20 and get many years out of them. Some of them I turn into lawn cutting shoes. I have a pair I bought at Walmart for $18 I have had for at least four years.

I have to pay for shoes because of my size most of the time. I don't like the style of the "hey dudes" personally so I would never. I have two pairs of shoes total. My tactical boots for EMS and dress uniform for the fire department and rescue squad and my sneakers. That's it. I don't even own a pair of heels. I'm not a typical girl lol.

My shoes are between $20 and $50, and I think they are great. I would choose a comfortable and casual style that I can afford

@porwest You're right. I once spent $50 to buy a pair of 7cm high heels, but they made me uncomfortable walking and I only wore them once.It has been stored in my warehouse for 10 years now
