I was out with my friend yesterday to do some shopping and discovered that I need to replace my debit card. Okay, it's a bit of a hassle, and I have to lay out some money to get it faster, but I can live with that.
I discovered at the store that the magnetic strip had gone bad, thanks to one of my feline roommates. I managed to get some groceries and was smart enough to get some cash too. I went on to the next store, which was my pharmacy and the card didn't work at all. CRUD!!!! Thankfully I had the cash to cover the cost of the prescriptions and other meds. Then on to the grocery store (we can't ever find what we want at one grocery store, it takes two or three stops!). I got my ice cream and TV dinner. I had enough to cover that bill too. But left me with a grand total of $6 cash for the week. I'm not counting the quarters for doing the laundry...I'm kind of fussy about dirty clothes.
This morning (Sunday) I decided that I would get going and call and order a new debit card. I don't know about the rest of you, but if I don't get enough sleep I don't think well at all. Well, last night was another short sleep night. The back yard neighbor was playing with his new power washer and cleaning his patio. Plenty of noise!!! Plus it was his son, daughter-in-law and grandson visiting for Father's Day weekend. They don't know the meaning of turning down the noise. So, at 5:30 a.m. I woke from my sleep to hear the family outside doing something. Sigh, hopefully they aren't staying the whole week!!! I grumbled and crawled out of bed with Petey on my heels.
I fed the cats, made the bed, and tossed on my robe. I grabbed what I wanted to use in the living room and headed in. This you need to keep in mind...don't forget, I did. So, as I stated in my other posting I managed to find my digital photo stuff so I can list what I want to sell off, got pictures done, and hopefully will put them on line tomorrow. I made a cup of tea and was about to sit down when I realized that I was going to order a new debit card. I wandered back to get it out of my wallet, but it wasn't there. OOPS!!! I took everything out of the wallet and couldn't find the debit card. Then I did the same with the purse (I carry a lot of stuff with me...including miniature bears that I hand sew when I'm having to wait.). NO DEBIT CARD!!!! I wasn't to the panic point. I checked the clothes I wore yesterday, still no debit card!!! With my luck someone would find it and it would work perfectly for them!!! I checked the bags that I carried the stuff I bought in-NO DEBIT CARD!!!
I tried to keep calm and mentally retrace where I had used it last. I used it at the pharmacy and the grocery store. It didn't work at either. Okay, I'll call them. I was really starting to panic, when I mentioned to the customer service at the debit card place they told me three weeks or better unless I wanted to pay extra for faster service...I'm sweating by now.
I decided to check through the stuff I moved off the table and see if it might be mixed in with that stuff-"NO STINKING DEBIT CARD!!!! I'm in trouble, deep trouble. I don't even remember the account number!!! I research my purse and wallet with NO LUCK!!!! Well at least I have the debit card places phone number programmed into my phone.
I put my cup in the microwave to heat my water for tea. Something to soothe my nerves. Then, suddenly, out of nowhere, Freya comes up and rubs against my legs and is purring for all she's worth. That's not normal this time of night, and I didn't even step in any cat nip. She looks up at me earnestly and somehow manages to say in her sweet kitty voice, of all things, "Robe". I looked down at her and shook my head, I couldn't believe my ears. Then she pats my leg and again utters that same word "ROBE". What do I have to lose? I go back to the bedroom and open the closet door, I reach in and check the robe pockets. The left pocket is empty, but, in the right hand pocket I reach in and feel something cool, flat, and firm to the touch. I pull it out and there in my quivering hand is...Yep you guessed it, the missing debit card. No calls had to be made, no extra searching, no fishing through the trash, there it was in the palm of my hand. It went right into my wallet and is going to stay there until tomorrow morning when I call for the replacement. My undying thanks goes to Freya for letting me know where the thing I was stressing so badly over was such an easy find.

I am sooo glad to have found it!!! I would have been up all night looking for it!!! I was worried that I might have lost it at one of the stores, and that was a ton lifted off my shoulders!

YEP, that's what I call a hell of a cat, I hate it when I can't
find something I KNOW I have to have & stress out of my
every loving mind over it & somewhere out of the blue it
amazingly shows up where you lest think it could be.
My keys is 1 of them, important papers is another 1
& YES my credit cards is 1 I go batty over most.
Glad you didn't have to go off the deep end to find
it & you can get a new 1 to replace it, NOW, just keep
it AWAY from the cats & IN a SAFE PLACE.

I took care of worrying about the keys. I have two sets that I use the most, and I have hooks in the kitchen where I hang them when I finish using them. It's gotten to be a habit now so I don't have to worry about searching for them.
I do the same with important papers, I have a basket in the bedroom where they get placed as soon as I get them read. That way I KNOW where they are and don't stress over them. The ones that don't matter who sees them (about the apartment complex events) I put on the fridge.
The little stuff I lose I find in spots that I wonder why the hell I put it there....but when I think back I can totally understand the "WHY" behind it. I haven't totally adjusted to apartment living. I moved from a "house" into the apartment, it's like moving from riding in a limo to driving a Volkswagen Beetle. Oh and in the bug you have two cats helping you out with keeping things up. One wants to be on you lap the whole time and the other is flinging her stash of pipe cleaners around, Petey is on my lap right now trying to help me write this comment. When he does that, he manages to delete it!

@BearArtistLady sounds you have some things going in the right direction
now you just have to make a habit of where you put your credit cards after
your done with it which I would think in a safe place away from the cats.

She must have watched me slip it in my robe pocket. I was going to call yesterday to get it replaced and realized it was Sunday and I probably wouldn't get much help. I had planned to do it over my morning tea. (Petey's on my lap gazing up adoringly at me as if to say: "I could help you Mom, just let me talk to them!"), Well, at least he's one happy cat for the moment.

Glad you found it and yay Freya. I don't know how they do it but cats do find voices at the oddest time. When my Freddie was still a kitten he missed his cat mom a lot and waited for her visit, She was still coming to feed the kittens but slowly they were going on regular food, Well early one morning Freddie jumped on my bedside table, I looked at this little cat and asked what was the matter and he clearly said in English Mama. I knew he missed his cat Mama Silky, Now that they are grown he has remembered that word and will use it if he needs something or help or reassurance, Then I hear Mama and I got to take a look at what is up,

My neighbor friend and I keep commenting on how smart Freya is. She'll find stuff for us, alert us to people coming to the door, and even show us where we put things. We make sure we have plenty of treats on hand for both Freya (the smart lady Siamese gal) and Petey her comical housemate cat (the ginger tabby I write about). I can't begin to say how much of a relief she brought me when she stood there and meowed "Robe".
