Have you ever made hot dog chili?

Our son in law grilled a few hot dogs Saturday to go with the ribs and they were pretty good. I actually wanted them more than the ribs.
We love chili, mustard, and slaw on hot dogs. I had mustard, no slaw, but had bought a small can of chili sauce. It was the nastiest mess! Nathan and I tried to doctor it up, but finally had to trash it.
So today, I made a small batch of home made hot dog chili. It seems to taste pretty good. It's a lot different than my regular chili, so hope to enjoy a couple of hot dogs in a while. Still don't have the slaw, but you can't have everything!

@porwest I would, but I like hot dog chili a little sweet and thicker. My chili is thinner and just has a different taste.

@1creekgirl The two just go together. I'd just make your chili the same way you normally do and just add hot dogs to it. lol

They're a grilled weiner with slaw, Ketchup, yellow mustard, hot dog chili (finely ground and fried hamburger with a chili sauce or ketchup with a little brown sugar, simmered) on a hot dog bun. They can be really yummy...unfortunately my chili sauce was awful!

They're good grilled or even cooked in an open fire pit, stuck on the end of a straightened wire clothes hanger!

I've never made hot dog chili; but it sounds really good. I'm hungry right now and could go for a hot dog even though it's 6 am. Have a good day.

My dad used to make hot dog chili, I haven't myself though, I haven't had a chili dog at all in a while. I like chili dogs from Dairy Queen... anyway, kind of got off on a rabbit trail there, my apologies.

No apology needed! My favorite hot dog place here is Sonic, but like everywhere, it's gotten so expensive.

@1creekgirl oh yeah prices are crazy, I'm old enough to remember when my family could feed 7 kids and two adults for $50 on a night out, now we'd be fortunate to feed four people for that price.

I remembered that hot dogs really don't agree with me, but I can eat one every once in a while. This wasn't one of those once in a whiles, lol.

If I ever eat a hot dog again (I love them, but they don't love me) it will be at Sonic or DQ.

Wow you have a son-in-law who is a chef. That is so sweet when you have a son-in-law who cooks for you. To your question, no, I don't like spicy foods, but I love cheese and bacon with a hotdog.

That sounds like a yummy way to fix a hot dog. My son in law really is a good cook..it works out well for his family. My daughter is a good cook, but she enjoys his cooking.

I have never had hot dog chili but my Mom made a recipe back in the day called Fabulous Frank's. It had hot dog pieces and rotini noodles mixed together with a type of tomato sauce topped with cheese. I forget if she found the recipe in a cookbook or one of her friends gave her the recipe. I always enjoyed it.

I discovered that Walmart has Great Value hot dog chili sauce which is very tasty, Often I pick up some cans and I love them with fat smoked sausages better than hot dogs,

That sounds good. We buy grilled pork sausages in a hot dog bun with mustard. Here they're called sausage dogs.
