Into Everyone’s Life Some Trees Must Fall

Tree in my back yard. Photo taken by and the property of FourWalls.

When I first bought this house 35 years ago, there was a big tree in the middle of the back yard. My dear mother of blessed memory said, “That’s coming down.” And it did: she had it removed. That was the only tree on my property. In the 35 years that I’ve lived here I’ve had three trees decide to plop down on my yard. The most recent event happened today. I heard the fence rattle, so I checked my security camera. I saw nothing, so I assumed it was a cat jumping the fence. A few minutes later my doorbell rang. It was my next door neighbor, informing me that I had a tree down in the back yard. The photo is what happened. We weren’t having and storms, and it wasn’t windy. A friend of mine said, “It probably just passed out from the heat!” As I said, this is the third time it’s happened. As with the other two instances, it missed any “expensive repair” things as it fell, like a building (in this case, it would have been the garage). I will need to get a post and panel of my privacy fence repaired, but that’s about it…save for chopping it up, of course. Ah, Monday….

That one was a very large branch that fell in your property. I hope you had no very serious damages and (of course) that your neighbor pays for the fixes.

If he helps or knows how to repair the damage to the fence I’ll be happy.

@FourWalls I hope he will, after all the problems are caused by HIS tree.

Will you have to get someone to chop it up? I'm guessing so. Was the tree in the neighbour's place or is it public land/whatever behind you?

It was on the neighbor’s property. Believe it or not, that’s just (just????) a large branch that came down…large enough to cover the entire width of my back yard! The neighbor (on the other side of my property) who told me about it said he’d get his chainsaw out in the morning and chop it up.

@FourWalls I'm glad you'll have help to remove it. That must be a huge branch.

Well, we have that happen sometimes. The important thing is that no one was hurt. Repairs are minnor.

@FourWalls That's great! We had a tree that broke, kinda, we decided to leave it because George likes watching the birds and squrils make homes in it.

No humans or animals were harmed in the collapse of this tree.

Falling of trees is often, glad that not much is there to repair. I remember, once the tree outside my house fell that it broke the front mirror of my car. So you are being blessed and saved!!!

Falling trees took out TWO houses not too far from where I live last year. I am very blessed!

Indeed. It fell in the “empty space” of my property.

It's never the tree you want to go down... I had a nice nectarine tree in my last place taken down by carpenter ants, right at the root crown, meanwhile the weedtree in the next yard continued to reach over the fence...

When trees fall they fall fast. I hope the repair goes smooth.

Oh goodness, that is one of my biggest fears. There are trees in our yard and woods that I pray never fall on their own

The biggest tree was taken down when I bought the house by my worrywart mother (although I completely concurred with her). A couple of years ago my next-door neighbor (with the chainsaw) and I split the bill on having a tree on someone else’s property cut down…because it was leaning toward us!

You have weak trees! lol I'm glad it didn't do more damage. Do you have a fireplace? Instant firewood. Have a good day.

How do you feel losing the tree to heat?

It’s not significant because I have central air conditioning. The only thing that tree shades is the garage.
