Wow, was 1964 a great year for music!! The more I dive into these songs the more I realize it. And I wasn’t listening to pop music then, it was all country music! (Which is why there are four country songs in the top ten…sorry. ) Let’s continue with another great song and performer. Wishin’ and Hopin’ - Dusty Springfield Dusty on vocals, and Bacharach/David on songwriting. What else could a song possibly need??? According to Picky Wedia, Burt Bacharach had to convince Dusty Springfield that this was a viable single, because she was unsure of her version. (She’d recorded it after hearing the Dionne Warwick version from 1963.) Wow, I’m glad he convinced her! An amazing song, showcasing Springfield’s vocals as well as those pretty good songwriters. Enjoy this one again! Wishin’ and Hopin’ Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David Recorded by Dusty Springfield From Stay Awhile/I Only Want to Be With You, 1964 You will be his:

As you say, what a song-writing duo. And didn't Dusty have some great songs?

I’m so glad you enjoyed it. As with so many others, her radio play anymore is relegated to her biggest songs, “I Only Want to Be With You” and “Son of a Preacher Man.”

A great song. I think she has always been underrated as a singer.

I totally agree. She’s one who could’ve sung the phone book and made it sound great.

That distinctive voice of hers gave her the nickname "The White Queen of Soul." Springfield was versatile in numerous genres, including rock, pop, folk, and country. "I Only Want to Be With You" was my favorite but this one is a close 2nd.

Idk give the top spot to “Son of a Preacher Man” on my favorite Dusty songs list. “I Only Want to Be with You” is another fabulous tune by her!
