Two Americans I wish were Indian leaders

Benjamin Franklin and Abraham Lincoln. I guess there are more people with admirable qualities, including Obama, and Jimmy Carter. I may have read less about them, or cannot relate to them or their actions to be more precise, even though these leaders have lived in my time. So when Americans put those four leaders on Mount Rushmore, I always felt, Franklin deserved a place there...even though he was never the president. This is the problem with statues or sculptures...when we build/sculpt one, we are always left with feeling of unfairness towards others. Do you feel the same way?

As a kid many leaders were admired, then as I grew up, one by one, they fell off the list because I came across more information about them. I have become quite cynical about politicians. I feel, when they are in power, we will not know anything bad about them. It is when they are not in power, we will get the truth. If I had to mention anybody it would be Lal Bahadur Shastri. He was the kinda leader India needs.

@jstory07 Unlikely. LOL. Half the population is uneducated and therefore, does not understand what it is voting for. It just waits for freebies. The other half does not have time to reflect on what the leaders are doing or implications of it. So they decide based on the leader's affinity or aversion towards their religion.

With over a billion people, India's pool of talented leaders is assured. Besides, can you imagine Abraham Lincoln in a stove pipe hat wearing a traditional Indian Kurta?

I would have loved to see Lincoln like that. :) India can seriously do with folks like that.

Many times, abandoning old concepts and finding new directions for development is a manifestation of our social progress. The President must be the people of his own country, not a foreigner
