Bit of 1970s

This picture is of my maternal great grandma’s cloth wallet she had in the early 1970s. My sister was getting rid of some stuff, and asked if I wanted it. I love snapshots of the past. I was really impressed because the inside leather is pristine. My great grandmother didn’t buy a lot, but she believed in buying quality so you could go years without having to buy again (she was a hairdresser, as she called it). The colors sure say early 1970s, don’t they? It’s the last wallet my granny apparently had. She passed away before I was born, but I heard a lot about her. Is this something I should put away and keep pristine, or would it be okay if I used it? I like the connection.

I would use it. It's a great connection and I think your great grandma would be happy knowing her wallet is now yours.

I bet you’re right. She’s probably say, “It’s doing no good just sitting there!”

Oh my goodness. I had one like it that my aunt bought me. I believe that you can safely use it. It was built sturdy. My pattern was a little different. Sadly it disappeared.

That’s disappointing that you don’t have it anymore. But cool that you had a similar one!

@AmbiePam it looked just like. Just material was a bit different.

Whatever you want to do with the wallet is okay. It would be nice to use it perhaps rather then stash it away somewhere.

Yeah, I’ll use it until or if it starts to show wear, and then I’ll put it away.

It's yours now. It would bring you happiness every time you took it out of your purse. It will never mean more to anyone else than it does to you. Use it, and remember your grandmother. She would love that.

Yup--I remember my mother sewing an afghan in similar colors. The main part was brown, the insides of the squares were light green, and in the very center of the squares were light orange 3-D flowers (they stood up from the rest of the afghan).

That is a really good lesson for all of us, to buy quality and to take good care of it. I remember those colours from when I was a child.

I'd use it. It would be a great conversation starter and a good way to remember your grandmother, even if you never met her.

Definitely use it if you want to. I was in my 20s in the 70s and remember things like that very well. Have a good afternoon.
