I've figured it out

The cause of all this extreme heat is the overuse of air conditioners! I mean, you never hear of heat warnings in winter, when no one has their AC turned on. So all y'all have to do is not use your ACs to get temperatures back to normal. Simple, right?

An interesting theory but not true! I don't know what we would do without our AC. The heat is one thing; but the humidity has been really high. A fan can't get rid of that. Have a good day and stay cool and hydrated.

You'd learn to live with it, as millions did before.

@LindaOHio They have AC but fewer and smaller windows... and not the joy of the teacher deciding to take the class outside to sit under the trees.

@BarBaraPrz I remember being in school after summer break. The windows would be wide open, the hot sun was streaming in; and our heads were swimming from the heat. The kids today are lucky that they have AC.

Oh sure, picture this: It's 107f or 42c, you live in a mobile home ..... it's like a tin can or car, it's hotter inside that outside in summer and colder than outside in winter ..... so you go outside to escape the indoor heat but it's hot out and the shade from the trees only goes down to maybe 40c. Hmmmm, what would you do? I can see why Native Americans would move around in spring and fall.

Aren't they insulated these days? And the tree in my back yard lowers the temp a whole lot more than 2°. I was working on my driveway some more today (it's a big driveway) in the shade of said tree and I didn't find it unbearable even though Yahoo weather says it's 30°C.

Mine was manufactured in 2003, it's better built than some built in the 1990s but it still get really hot if I don't have a cooler on when temps get up around 40c

Hardly anyone had AC 60 years ago, when summers weren't so hot.

@BarBaraPrz No, they sat outside with a paper fan, fanning themselves, or they went to the pool or lake to cool off. We didn't have an air conditioner when I was growing up.

We have our AC turned on but it's reverse cycle to give us heat. We're having a cold snap at the moment.

Needless to say,the overuse of air conditioners exacerbates urban tropical island effect.

This must sound funny, but in cities like New York it is estimated that the air conditioners increase the temperature in summer of about 3º C, that is not so little. Trees decrease the temperature of about 2º C.

I heard the same. A neighbor complained that the air conditioner which was placed near his house made the temperature in his house hot.
