The Mighty Muddy Flood

Hello, my fellow mylotters!! I know I have been MIA for quite some time but hopefully I'm back for a while and can fill you in on why I haven't been on the site to write. I'll take you back to May 28th 2023 and we had been getting quite a lot of rain. Not really any more did it seem than prior years as it usually is rainy on Memorial Day. That morning it was raining some, but then the sun came out. The hubby had already went to work (7 a.m.) and I was up in my pajamas and was going to take a shower. I went down the hall in our trailer house and the floor seemed wet. I thought maybe we had a leak in the roof. I continued walking through the rest of the trailer house and water was coming up through the floor, so I called the hubby (all the other neighbors were calling 911) and told him there was water coming in the house. He's asking me where, because he had just left to go to work. Either before I called him or during the phone call, I heard a "snap" and looked out a window and saw the west neighbor's pallet fence crashing down with a wall of water following it!!! Lily, our dog was having a hard time swimming and she would try to crawl on me to take breaks. Then while I'm still on the phone to the hubby, reception was bad, but I did hear him say that there were boats coming out to get us!! (He works for the village.) Lily and I were both pacing tryin not to drowned and I can't swim!!! The water is getting deeper and refrigerators and furniture are floating every where and the lights are still on. I heard voices saying is anyone in here, so I got to our sliding glass doors and someone opened the door. I'm standing there in shock soaking wet, and they ask me if anyone else is in the house and I said "Yes, our dog but I can't find her, I didn;t know if she had drowned or what, but I wanted her with me. They got me in the boat and luckily our east neighbor was already in the boat and she called me and told me to get in and get covered up. Some one else said they would have some one come back later and try to find the dog. The rest of the day was pretty much a day I'm a year later getting bits and pieces of my memory back of that day. However, at about noon when the water subsided, a good samaritan went and got our Lily. Some how, the bathroom door got shut and she was crawling up the shower curtain and when she got rescued she was on the bathroom counter. Our dog was a hero and was even on Good Morning America!!!

That must have been a frightening experience. I hope the flood didn't do too much damage to your property and you manage to salvage most of your things.
