Slices of gold

I hope I can get a photo to load...it's a few tomatoes from our garden. There are probably 40 or more green ones on the vines, but unless we get some rain, I'll be frying green tomatoes.
Which are yummy, but we really want some ripe, red tomatoes.
You know how when you have plenty of something, you're not quite as particular about how much of it you eat? Well, this is like that.
We did slice one this morning (I had a BLT minus the lettuce for breakfast.) It was soooo good. I had a few little pieces from the tomato that I added to a pot of veggie soup for dinner today. Added some fresh squash, too.
Anyway, if God shows mercy and sends some rain, I won't feel like the tomato slices are as valuable as gold!
Dale worked so hard on the garden like he always does with getting the ground prepared. planting, hoeing ( he has a tiller that's really a big help for the weeds), keeping the bugs out, watering twice a day, and picking whatever grows. So it's so discouraging to see all that work for such a small amount of produce. He has around forty watermelons and I don't know how many cantaloupe, plus squash, okra, tomatoes, red potatoes, and sweet potatoes.
But as disappointed as we are from the lack of a critical blessing like rain, I feel so bad for the farmers around here. Their crops aren't just something to enjoy, crops are their livelily hood. It's what pays their bills.
We keep praying God will be merciful and send rain. We can water the garden constantly, but it's never enough or certainly not good enough to take the place of rain. And with all the technology today, there's still no way humans can produce rain.
It can sure make some people stop taking God's blessings for granted.
Hope you're getting the rain you need and not floods and terrible storms.
Love y'all.

They look so good! And how cool that Dale accomplished so much without much rain. Forty watermelons sounds mighty tasty. I feel for the farmers too. People tend not to consider everything they go through.
My stepmom tried to plant corn, but the crows ate it. They tend to do that, but she gets a kick out of watching them eat it that she keeps trying. My dad’s blackberry bush did well, but not as well as last year, which disappointed him. He looked so cute picking them outside when I saw him.

That made me smile thinking about your dad. Do y'all still have blackberry bushes? We tried to grow blueberry bushes, but weren't successful.
The watermelons are small (thecantloupes are tiny), but hopefully they'll grow.

@1creekgirl The blackberry bushes (two) shed their last fruit about a week ago, but it’s funny you mentioned trying to grow blueberries. The blackberry seeds were labeled blueberries, and not until they started growing did they realize the seeds had been mislabeled.
Your cantaloupes might turn into big ones, like the little fruit that could!

Even though we need the rain, I hope it's not from a hurricane!

Thanks, it would have been a really good crop of several things if we had gotten more rain.

I am doing my best to be grateful for God's blessings instead of wondering what it would be like to be if I were rich in money.

You are very wise, George. Money can't buy God's blessings, that's for sure.

I felt you're most likely in the drought, also. I don't see any rain in the forecast, do you?

There's never been any tomatoes in the grocery store even edible. A farmer's market is a good place for fresh local fruits and veggies.

I pray your part of the state gets some rain soon. We had some morning showers Thursday and overnight last night into this morning. It wasn't much but it was welcomed. Tomorrow is our biggest chance of steady rain all day. I hope they are right.

We've gotten a few showers recently, praise God for His mercy, but still need more. Hope y'all get some more rain, too.

The tomatoes look fresh and healthy. I had a good harvest of ripe mangoes but my guavas are eaten by birds. Monsoon has arrived in my city but we need constant slow rains for a good crop.

Home grown tomatoes are the best! Especially on a sandwich. You have quite a collection of produce growing there. Hoping the rain makes a stop or two in your direction...

I sure don't mean to sound ungrateful, but now we're getting too much rain! But we've been enjoying the garden stuff. Squash is over, tomatoes almost , okra good for a while, and watermelons and cantaloupe are doing well.

It shouldn't be much trouble to grow some tomatoes in a patio pot. Fresh is so yummy. We had BLTs last night and I took two bites, closed my eyes and just savored the taste.

@1creekgirl I'd hate not to be able to eat lettuce. We love our salads around here.
