It was art class day on Thursday again. The taxi came just on time again. I got to the place, went to the toilet and got myself a cup of tea. Esther was there this week instead of Sue because Sue was on a training course. Esther is Sue's sister-in-law. She'd put a tray over the top of the biscuits to keep an annoying fly off! We were doing water lilies in watercolour this week (see picture above.) I chose two pictures off the board because I couldn't decide which one to use again. Most people were putting masking tape round the edge of their paper, but I don't like doing that because when I pull the masking tape off afterwards it tends to rip the paper. So instead I draw a frame around the edge using my ruler. We drew out the waterlillies first, then we painted the background wet in wet. That means we wet the paper first and then put diluted paint on. When that was dry we started with the lilies, wetting the paper first again and then dropped the colour in just where we needed it. We wet one petal at a time. I made sure each bit that I did was not right next to a wet part so that the different parts didn't run into each other. I did the lilies to the sides and the lily pads. We left it to dry. When that was dry we got out a fineliner pen and we went over the outlines of the lilies and started to add details. It's not finished yet. I've got more details to do and I've got to add darker shadows. Near to the end of our time there I decided to do a little video of my painting. While I was filming my taxi man came and said, "I'm here for No. 11!" I said, "That's me!" Our tutor, Tina, told him I'd be just a few more minutes. When the taxi driver had gone out Tina said that that taxi driver was nice. She said that one time when he had gone to Wall Village Hall first instead of coming to my house to pick me up, he'd said, "Oh, I'm here now, how much is your tea?" So while I was at home waiting for my taxi to come he'd been at Wall Village Hall drinking tea! And that all went on the little video which I'll put up to premier on YouTube soon! We put our pictures on the floor so that everyone could look at them. We were told that next week we are doing the old banger in watercolour and pastel pencils. Then I went out and found my taxi and went home. I only went to the toilet once at the hall so I was bursting when I got home! Then I showed my Mum the painting, had my dinner and watched some telly. What were you lot doing on Thursday? I hope you are all well. Have a nice day.

Your painting is very nice! The reason that people put tape around the edges of the paper is so that it will stay flat instead of wrinkling up when it gets wet. If you find your tape damages the paper, you could use pins or clips, or you could use a watercolor block (that's my preference - I don't have the patience to tape or clamp down the paper). I don't see any warping on your paper, so maybe you are using a nice thick kind.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you think so. My paper is rather thick. I also measure a rectangle round the edge and draw it in with pencil so it has the same look as if it's been taped down. That also helps it not to wrinkle up because the paint doesn't go right to the edge. If a painting does wrinkle up I might put it under a heavy book for a while to help get it flat!
