When you are looking for a movie do you pay attention to the star rating?

I usually try to find movies that are about 7 stars or over, because I am pretty sure I will like it. However, if the content seems interesting, I will sometimes ignore that rule. Last night I watch Disappearance which is an older movie with Harry Hamlin and Susan Dey..(Partridge Family) Haven't seen her for years. It is a movie I have seen before, but probably not for many years. Anyway, at first I didn't remember it, and thought the topic seemed interesting so I watched it. I liked it quite a bit, although it only had 5 stars. I do like to watch movies that the majority of viewers seem to like, but one I had on before this one, had a high star level, but it wasn;t my cup of tea. To me a movie is like a book, if it doesn't capture my interest in the beginning, I am not going to watch it. I won't give it long to engage me unless I read a review that says start slow..but builds to an amazing conclusion or something.

I haven’t seen Susan Dey in forever. We just watch what looks good to us.

I would probably not watch a movie with 4 stars. I would think it would be dumb or something. This movie was made in 2002.

Sometimes they can be deceiving..everything might look pretty good on the surface, but it could end up being bad Of course you can always go on to something else.

@snowy22315 - During the past few days I have watched several movies about the Financial crisis of the year 2007/2208. Interesting to see how things went.

@TheHorse Actually they do have up to 10 stars .like 4.8 out of 10. It kind of depends on what scale you are looking at I guess .what the stars are.

We sometimes find a movie we both like which doesn't have a lot of stars. It just depends. We go by the subject matter. Have a good day.

Some of the poorly rated ones are deceptively good.

Well, sometimes am not sure whether they are critic or audience scores. I don't look at them that carefully usually.

Well, the reviews can be part of the star rating. They consist of those who have seen it

Wow Susan Dey is a blast from the past. Haven't seen that movie and usually I'll watch a movie if it seems interesting to me. I rarely pay attention to the star ratings. Sometimes I like movies with low star ratings and don't like some that have high stars. Guess I'm weird

I think we have all had similar experiences .now if the audience likes something and the critics don't, I will still watch it.

The star rating is sometimes faulty. Since the star ratings are initially when a movie is released, I wait for at least a day or two, before seeing the movies at the theatre. I had a few experiences where I watched horrible movies on the day of release or next day based on the star rating. For the ones I watch online, I check all the factors including genre before deciding to watch. So far, looking at the all factors has helped me in watching movies of my choice. Thanks

Yes, sometimes I watch movies that aren't very good depending on who is in them.

I stopped going to theatre for movie since 5 years. I prefer watching movies in home itself , I don't want my hard earned money for wasting movies. I'm not watching movies in home even on Telivision also. I watch movies on my Lenova tab, I mostly watch Telugu (local language) and Hindi movies and webseries of both languages also.
