So, I got my son to the dr. Our physicians office is pretty much very efficient. Sons appt was at 10am and he was taken back at about 10:10. First stop is where they weigh you, take blood pressure, check for temp and ask why you're there. So after the weigh in, BP and temp, the nurse asks why he's there. He shows her his finger. Now I know these nurses see a little bit of everything but his finger threw her. "Well that's nice." she said. Then she called the nurse practitioner in. She was also, like, "Wow, what did you do?" After my son told her she said, "Ok let's get you into a room." Normally, the lady who does triage sends you to a room without the nurse practitioner to wait on nurse practitioner to come in. So, back in the room, she got a little more information. She cleaned it up and told him he needed to keep it clean and that she wanted to give him an antibiotic shot and a tentanus shot also. She stressed "keep it clean" and told him he was done. I asked if he needed a x ray and she said no, that he hadn't cut enough off to need an x ray. So we were ready to leave. I looked at my phone and it was 10:25. As efficient as my physicians office is, that was very efficient. I've never only been there for 25 minutes. I just snapped a photo of the finger. It does look better so it's not so bad but I still feel as if they should have done the x ray.

@AmbiePam Yes it was. And for several years that was the only dr in our town. So it was either go to him or travel 45 minutes one way to see another dr.

Yes, it's the one thing I like about our physicians office. I've never been there over an hour, even at their busiest. Our town is very small, we only have 2 physician offices. The other one is efficient but not quite as efficient at the one I go to, but I don't know, I just don't like their office. The office I go to replaced the physician who had been in our town for YEARS!! 45 years approximately. The old dr finally retired. His office wasn't efficient at all. A typical wait in his office was usually around 3 hours. I believe they forgot about me once. I was in the very back room with my infant son (he's 36 now) and we had waited and waited and waited. Then they started turning the lights out. One of the nurse practitioners was checking the rooms I think and she seen we were there. Gripes! They would have left me there overnight!

Your typical's doctor's office doesn't have an x-ray machine in-house. So, they would've had to order one, send you to the hospital or some place and get it done and then wait for the results, which can take days to come back. Doctors also learn to do a quick dignosis from a distance. It may not have looked broken, so an x-ray wasn't needed. If you are still feeling your son's finger requires an x-ray, you can take him to an urgent care.

It's not broken but the bone is severed. The finger is starting to look infected. It's swelling and splitting the skin so we will probably end up in Urgent Care. However my doctors office has x ray equipment, an EKG machine and a bone density thing. There are others but I'm unsure what they are.

@marymary621 A sever is a break. And you must have a fancy doctor's office, then. Hope you don't end up in urgent care, but if your doctor's dismissed you, and you feel something's wrong, that's your next step.
