How far would you go to try a really high rated food item?

Since things like different food items, restaurants and things like that are so subjective..it is hard to know what is really good and what is not. Frequently, places that get rave reviews seem to have greased some palms or their cousin is writing the review or something. I just saw a place in Palmyra, VA. roughly an hour from here..maybe a bit less that got on some top 10 U S. burger list. Also, a few locals raved about the burgers too I think I may have to take a trip down there sometime. I know one time though friend and I went way out of the way to try a pizza joint that was lauded in the Washington Post. Frankly, I think Dominos has better pizza. Hopefully Wahoo burger isn't a bust.

I wouldn’t go very far. I’m just not that interested, although I’m sure I’ve just not been introduced to something that could change my mind (yet).

@snowy22315 Man, I haven’t had them in forever! They’re ten minutes away, but the place is expensive.

I prefer to eat at restaurants in the local area in Lake Charles than to travel a long distance to eat a restaurant that is highly rated by my local newspaper The American Press.

It can be tricky to trust reviews sometimes, as tastes vary so much. Hopefully, Wahoo Burger lives up to the hype! It sounds like a fun adventure to try out a place with such high praise.

@annierose Thanks, don't know how soon I will be making the trek there I really shouldn't spend the money, but that never stops me!

Yes, well it never hurts to see new scenery even the burger fails to impress. I have only been through there a couple of times.

@snowy22315 Absolutely, it's always nice to explore new places. Even if the burger doesn't live up to expectations, the change of scenery can be refreshing. Enjoy the adventure!

Sometimes you just gotta take the plunge to see what all the hype is about . I think food adventures can be fun - sometimes the food really is awesome, other times meh. Top 10 US burger . . . well geez, gotta try it!

It depends which kind of food, I would not go far to have a burger or a pizza, but to try a new real exotic Restaurant I think I would. When vacationing in Napoli, we went to try a special place for pizza, but it was only 15 minutes drive from out hotel and worth the drive.

@LadyDuck Nothing is a 4 minute drive from here not even the convenience stores. I rarely buy anything in them..as the name would indicate not the best prices. I was in the one closest to me though the other day..sometimes they have good prices on chips or bottles of soda..but I didn't see anything cheap in that regard. You could walk to your grocery store if you didn't need a lot.

@snowy22315 It is 4 minutes drive to our grocery stores. There are some restaurants one hour from here where we used to go in the past for dinner, but no more now.

Many times something that is touted by some is not something that we care for. We have our own set of standards. Many people like Applebee's. Our Applebee's sucks. We drive 1/2 hour to one of our Red Lobsters. That's as far as we'll go. Have a good day.

Usually chain restaurants aren't going to have the best of anything. Alot of the Red Lobsters have closed. I was at one a couple of months ago for a mystery shop. We weren't impressed. The food took forever to come out..it was OK, nothing great.

@snowy22315 Both of our Red Lobsters are very good. The same goes for Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn Steakhouse. We are pretty lucky. Our RL will stay open for the time being. I hope they don't close.

I don't know how far I would go. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to try a restaurant unless it was near to other places I also wanted to visit. My favourite restaurant is 125 miles away and over 2 hours' drive. It's in an area I visit fairly regularly (well, about once every year or two). There was another place nearer to me (about 47 miles away and an hour's drive) that was recommended to me. I happened to be visiting the town anyway but most definitely wouldn't have gone out of my way for the place that had been recommended. It was OK but it was nowhere near as good as I'd been led to believe.

Very often it ends up that way..you wonder what they were smoking when they wrote the review. .I am hoping to find one that is worth the stellar review.

Some reviews are not legit. Maybe done by the staff or the friends of the staffs.

I have gone on such adventures. However, it has been mixed results. Some of items were overpriced yet tasty and some were like just over rated. I have decided not to go on such escapades considering the fact i need to focus on investment and savings. I feel such adventures are just of waste of time and money. However, I do try new restaurants and dishes nearby and at affordable prices.
