It all depends

We seem to all depend on a functioning internet. We had gone to the nearest hardware store between five and six last night, only to find it closed.
We needed spare car keys made, and a new Mailbox and post, which is a different story. So we went before we went home today, after church.
Nice young man said yes, last night their internet was down so they basically could do nothing.. He went home at 5 p.m.
He says if anything catastrophic ever happens to the US it will be as a result of someone crippling the internet. Could be right.

There are people who stay on the Internet, all the time! They stop only long enough to eat, shower and sleep. Without the Internet, some individuals would go bonkers:(

Like everything else, it is addictive. I miss parts of the good old days.

Many things that we take for granted run online.
Two of the six major banks in Canada had their systems affected last Friday and the debit and in one case the credit card transactions at POS (point of sale) machines were declined. And nobody carries cash here.

@GardenGerty We do not receive any extra bank fees for using debit cards.
It is just an electronic way of paying for things and since our pay goes in electronically why not cut out the middle man, by going to the bank for cash, and just pay for everything electronically. That is our son has always paid for things, those in their 30's are less likely to have cash than the rest of us.

He's not wrong. Things aren't designed to work offline. You can watch limited motives and t.v. if you download them to your device. Same with music. You could use a word processor to write, but that's about it.

Yes. Pricing of products, checking out at stores, even the security systems are all run by the internet.

I have heard on the evening news about internet breakdowns due to a natural disaster or someone messing around with the computer.

Yes, it happens on a limited scale all the time, but if it was large scale we would be sunk.

The internet has it's uses as well as harmful effect on people. Technology has improved our lives but I also find it can be a distraction and on many occasions, the good old ways of doing things was better. Take face to face conversation. many prefer to talk through the cell phone or text which often create misunderstanding when they are misread.

We need to remember how to do things in the good old ways and not rely on computers to do our work. Our brains are turning to mush.

Sorry you had that experience. Yeah, it is scary having the Russians floating right next to us in space too.

Many years ago I had been to visit my family in the next state. I had stopped to get gas when leaving, but due to a power outage the pumps would not pump, they could not ring us up, and you could see it had affected the grocers across the street. The automatic door was sliding open and shut without stopping. And that was before everything was on the internet as well.

You would think that he could make a paper receipt and then post it when the internet came back up. Have a good week.
