The day started well and ended badly.

I had a wonderful day and was very much applauded for my food.
The conversation was centered in football (soccer) as half of the guests (Humberto, Ariel and his GF) sat at the foot of my bed watching the match between Switzerland and Germany.
And then Humberto asked me how many of the members of the mytical team where my late husband had played were still alive.
The last time I talked with his nearest chum was about a month ago. He sounded depressed. And today, I received a call from his daughter telling me that Hugo had died this morning. I knew that he was ill and that he was 85 years old, but we never want to part with out loved ones.
Tomorrow morning is the wake. Dixie will take me and there I´ll ask his widow in what way I can help.
Friends, I am very, very sad.

I agree. I´m more worried about his widow. Lely is not sociable and she does not have many friends.

WOW that's a heck of a turn around, how everything goes good
then all hell breaks loose at a drop of a moment from a call.

I knew that he was ill. He learned about his illness before the pandemia started and Humberto had told me that it was a chronic disease that was terminal at some point. I went to see him before the pandemia and then we called each other every month.

It is sad that they are passing, even though no one lives forever. Good you had some nice company.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It sounds like you had a bittersweet day, with moments of joy overshadowed by the news of Hugo's passing. It's natural to feel sad and mournful at times like these. Take comfort in the memories you shared with him and the impact he had on your life.

I have done that. And Dixie, as usual, was very sweet as she took me to the cemetary on both days.
