I was always told by family, friends and other's that if we were to keep our AC fan on the ON position rather than the AUTO position the electric bill would go up alot! Were you told that? My daughter and her boyfriend keep putting the AC fan on the ON position. What do you think?

Depends on how much you pay for eletricity. The ac is one of the appliances that uses a lot of power. The fan, itself, doesn't really do a whole lot. Except circulate the air. If the ac is activly cooling, then the fan will run to push the air around. But, you have to decide for yourself what is right.

@dfollin I know what you mean. And, yes it'll use more power to leave the fan on, but it won't do anything except make noise unless the unit is activly cooling. Auto is usually better, because it gives the unit a break and won't burn it out. It may or may not run the bill up to have the fan running all the time, but then we use it on all the time, either. Auto is what we like.

Running the AC fan on the ON position can lead to higher energy consumption and potentially a higher electric bill. Using the AUTO setting, where the fan runs only when the compressor is actively cooling the air, may be more energy-efficient.

We do not have AC, but I know it's the appliance that consumes more electricity and should always be left on AUTO, the same as the furnace in winter.

You are using more electricity if the fan is running all the time rather than on Auto. That's my opinion anyway. Have a good week.
