In the city and suburb area's is mostly where stores and businesses are to work at, shop, go to the doctor, etc,
People move farther out to pay less rent and property taxes. However it costs more to drive back and forth, as well as time, Then the taxes go up because they had to make the highways bigger to accommodate the number of cars!
So I feel it would be better to live in the suburb area. But you have to earn 3 times the amount of rent and have good credit to qualify!
I would have to win the lottery or earn enough and save to buy a home!

I used to have Section 8 when I was a single parent with my boys. Then I dropped it when I got married. My husband and I decided since his income was good we didn't need it. Then he ended up with cancer and we wished we had it. Now even the waiting list is closed.

It doesn't work out any way you slice it. Life's a b*tch and then ya die. We are lucky to have Section 8 and live on poverty row right here in suburbia.

Yep! The county that I used to live in, but unfortunately moved from is recorded as the best county in our state to receive assistance. However the Section 8 list and waiting list closed about 5 years ago! I was told that about 3 years ago it opened back up and was filled very quickly. Also all of the nearby counties in the northern Virginia area are closed as well.

@celticeagle Thanks for the info! But it won't do me any good. Here you have to already live in that specific county to get on any housing list to live in any specific county. I wish I could.

I was born and raised in NYC. Today NYC is so expensive but the suburbs of Long Island are even more expensive especially the taxes that have to be paid, I am mentioning this because the one place I would enjoy living and I think it is still not so expensive is in the Catskill Mountains of NY which is like living in the country,

We live in a small township in a semi-rural, nursery filled area. We have a Walmart Supercenter just 6 or 7 miles away. Most of the restaurants other than fast food are within driving distance. The fast food restaurants are about 6 or 7 miles away too. Our doctors, dentists, eye doctors are all within 15 minutes to 1/2 hour away. One is further. So we are pretty happy here. Have a good day.

Alternatively, after retirement, everyone can find a place with lower living costs to live in.For example, many Westerners go to Chiang Mai, Thailand to live their retirement life
