A Conscious Shift In Mindset

We often see memes that say things like, "It only takes one person to change your life: you." There's a powerful truth to that. Self-improvement is crucial. But let's consider things from a different angle.
We all strive to be our best, but perfection belongs to the celestial stars. It is the beauty and challenge of being human to have flaws. One of those flaws is how we judge each other.
Appearance: Physical attractiveness, clothing, and style, body language
Social Status and Achievements: Job title, career success, wealth, educational background, social circle and connections
Personality and Behavior: Manners and etiquette, habits and lifestyle choices, moral compass and values
Prevalent Biases: Race, ethnicity, and nationality (stereotypes and prejudices)
Age: Assumptions about ability, experience, or energy levels
Disability: Misconceptions about capabilities
These biases are not good behaviors for "keeping up appearances." They are poison.
Particularly harmful is constant evaluation when it intersects with ageism or other biases. True and lasting success, however, transcends those limitations. As Jim Rohn suggests, surround yourself with people of integrity, not just those who appear successful. Remember, you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Choose those who uplift and inspire you, regardless of age or background (Charles F. Glassman, MD).
Neither man was only referring to moving up the Corporate or social ladder. Each told us to be open-minded, welcoming, and kind to all. Those are not impossible ways of being. All it takes is a conscious shift in mindset.
Today, I challenge you to grow and become more mindful of the people around you. Look beyond appearances, titles, or backgrounds. See the humanity in everyone you meet. The connections you can forge might surprise you.

Thank you. It is good to hear from you, and I hope you are enjoying your weekend, too. It's been a rainy day, so I've stayed home taking it easy.

@LindaOHio, I am so sorry to hear that, and remember he was in the hospital before my break. My thoughts and prayers continue.

@Chellezhere You're welcome. My husband has been away for 5 months. Long story; but he had surgery and then was in rehab. Now he's in the hospital for super low blood pressure and AFIB.

@Chellezhere I suppose one has to have a "hopeful" attitude.

@Chellezhere Precisely! So long as no one's getting hurt then we just should co-exist peacefully with a lot of tolerance and understanding.

Thank you. Hello to you, too! Yes. Regardless of social and financial status, we are all inherently the same, so what's the point in judging?

I find most people are fairly nice, until someone does something they think is unfair or uncalled for and then they react strongly. Learning not to over react to perceived provacations is something most need to learn and practice.

Indeed! It is always best to think before we speak (out of turn to ourselves or anyone else) about another.

And yet, judging people and jumping to conclusions about them is never something we should do.

Grandparents are wonderful people for advice like that, aren't they? I remember my mother's parents teaching me the same.

I realized this few years ago. One of the reasons for joining mylot is to get acquainted to people who can teach a few things better. Even if i am not spending considerable time in mylot or with mylot acquaintance , it still counts to get some changes. Along with fun and relaxation , I learn a few things and do a small self improvement. In real life, to some extent we can get higher minds but not always. Thanks for sharing!
