Sounds kind of strange, but that is how she appeared to me...Let me explain.
Went to Walmart and finally found everything but the mop I needed...they had not MOPS! Anyway..went to check out.
The cashier wore a silky like hoodie, a face mask, and glasses. He sleeves were extremely long. She used the scanner gun on everything, and used the sleeves of her hoodie to touch the items. The total came up, and I waited for the screen to tell me it was ready for my card. She never spoke one word. I finally tried the card and it worked. I had forgotten I had bought non food items, and there was a balance of $13.08. I tried to explain that everything was food, then remembered I had 2 items that were not. She never said anything..just reached up to the money monitor and turned it towards me. I reached into my purse and thought I pulled out a $20 bill, but as I saw her counting money, I realized I had taken out the $100 bill I had for the next place I was going. She took forever to get the change.
While all of this was going on, the lady behind me wanted to pay the $13.08. I told her no that I had enough to cover it. She insisted, but the cashier was having NONE of that and went on getting my change. I was glad to get it and GO at that point. Dealing with this cashier was ALMOST as bad as dealing with Self Checkout..but even the Self-Checkout speaks to you. LOL
I kind of felt bad...thinking maybe the cashier couldn't talk, but it really seemed like she was scared to death of touching something or breathing in our air. And if so..she really has no business being a cashier.

Wow, that sounds like quite an experience at Walmart! It must have been frustrating dealing with all that. It's understandable to feel concerned about the cashier's behavior. Hopefully, things improve next time you visit.

When I first read this and saw facemask along with ninja, I was thinking like a Halloween mask. I thought maybe something was going on in the store where people dressed up as different characters. But as I continued reading, I realized you meant a medical face mask. Maybe she was just a germaphobe.

You can blame COVID and mass meidia for that. And, while she had no business being a cashire (and could very well be mute), she likely has no choice. The jobs that are open, are also the jobs no one wants.

@Ghostlady Depending on when she was hired, it could've been avideo interview with an interupter.

That sounds very strange, Sounds like she is paranoid or something, You are right she should not be a cashier,
