The Blue Angels, formally named the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron (and second oldest formal aerobatic team in the world, after the French Patrouille de France, which formed in 1931), are a flight demonstration squadron of the United States Navy that formed on April 24, 1946, and made its first public appearance at Craig Field, in Jacksonville, Florida on June 15, 1946.
I lived outside Jacksonville for about twenty years and frequently saw and heard them. But I now live in a rural part of the Northeast. So, imagine my surprise yesterday evening when the familiar sound of military jets flying over startled me awake. The rest of the gang and their commander (a native of this area) flew by to say, "Hello!"
How cool is that?

They sure are - a bit too loud, but cool, just the same.

Having lived near several military bases for years, I've seen and heard them often, but only attended one air show. That was enough for me.

The Blue Angels have air shows in the Lake Charles area from time to time. They are amazing.

I think the Blue Angels perform at the Air Show in Cleveland each year. Have a good day.

Yes, and they will be back at Burke August 31 through September 2, as they have been since 1964. I hope you have a good day, too.

They flew straight over the lake. I heard it was quite a sight to see.

I struggled when air shows were going on in Jacksonville, because the noise was too much. Thank goodness this was just a onetime flyover.

Many thought there had been a plane crash when they heard them, but I could tell by the sound it was only a flyover.
