Adventures in Apartment Life

Hello friends, it's been a short minute. My childhood home has now been sold and it took a lot of paperwork and work getting items out of it. Unfortunately, we had to leave a lot of our belongings. The apartment we live in now is too small to have a lot of items, but it's cute and cozy, at least. To think, a week ago we were waiting to be accepted into the apartment, and now a week and 2 days later, the deposit is paid, the rent is paid, and we were able to furnish it. The only person who helped us move items was my cousin's ex-wife and her new husband. They are good people and still get along with the family. Everyone else flaked out on helping us move. The only excuse is my brother, who had knee surgery about a month and a half ago. He did help us pay rent for the month, which was really nice of him to do. So, apartment life is different, the community is nice, the landlords are amazing, and everyone is literally like family here. The courtyard has a pool, a dog park, a basketball and volleyball court, we also have a small gym, and a laundry room, and of course mailboxes. We had a few difficulties at first, especially because the payment system on the website only works a certain way. Luckily, we were able to navigate through it and finally get everything settled. At this very moment, there are maintenance men adding a new walkway. We live upstairs, and it's loud. I'm alone while hubby is at work. At least in here it's cozy, but man the noise they make is intense. Thank God I can remove my hearing aid. Of course, that really doesn't help, as I can still feel vibrations, which do annoy me. We also have cats around the complex, some are like emotional support cats and others are roaming free, but they LOVE PEOPLE!! I've never seen cats that friendly, except the one my husband and I had several years ago. The last thing to wait for is the money from selling the house. That will definitely boost up finances and help us out a lot. It's been a really stressful week, and I think now we can settle down a bit. This move was expensive and hopefully worth it. The good thing is, we can't hear our neighbors as the walls are soundproof. Let's see how this goes. Tomorrow marks our 1-week anniversary of living here. Let's see how these adventures go.

I am glad you've decided apartment life is for you. I don't think I could ever go back to apartment life. I enjoy home ownership far to much.

Well, it wasn't what we wanted. We lived in my childhood home and then my family sold the house. So far, I'm not good with Apartment life, but we really can't afford a home. So hubby and I will have to stick it out for a year, or until we have enough for a small house.

@hellobunny Did you or your husband ever serve. If so, I would look into a VA loan. My husband did, and it saved us a lot of money.

@kaylachan No, we never served. My brother did, but he pushed us out of the family home, to sell it. I'm supposed to be getting something from the sale. Hubby and I unfortunately did not qualify for a regular loan. So, it's tough.

Congratulations on your new place! It takes a few weeks, but in time, you'll be oblivious to the noise (I hope).

@hellobunny Yes, I can understand how that can be upsetting. I also know how frustrating waiting for maintenance is. Not fun.

Thank you!! Yeah, I'm not liking it LOL! I think because my family sold my childhood home, which is where hubby and I were living, and paying taxes on. Suddenly we have an apartment. It's quiet, but maintenance is taking a while to return the door they were supposed to fix a few days ago. I'm also home sick and a bit upset, because this will definitely take time to get used to.
