When Isabelle Coleman, a blond, beautiful young girl goes missing, everyone from the small town of Denton joins the search. They can find no trace of the town's darling, but Detective Josie Quinn discovers another girl they didn't even know was missing. Mute and unresponsive, this mysterious girl has clearly been damaged beyond repair. All Josie can get from her is the name of a third girl and the flash of a neon tongue piercing that matches Isabelle's. The race is on to find Isabelle alive, and Josie fears that there may be other girls in terrible danger. When the trail leads her to a cold case labeled a hoax by authorities, Josie begins to wonder if there's anyone left she can trust. ~~~~ This is the first book in the Detective Josie Quinn series. I have read two others in the now 20 book series. I tend not to read series books in order. I read them when I can get my hands on them. Besides, detective novels aren't necessarily needed to be read in order. This is a great female detective novel. The story about girls disappearing into thin air has a suspended Josie Quinn investigating the case against her suspension. Her boss is enraged enough by that that he turns her suspension into an unpaid supension. I thought his outrage at her detective work was a little over the top. And Josie has her own demons from her childhood, and her present with her upcoming divorce from childhood friend and fellow cop Ray Quinn. Her over indulgence of alcohol to ease her wounds made her a little unlikeable for me, though I know I liked her in other books. As for the mystery and detective work, great story with interesting twists and turns as you would expect from any mystery. The short chapters added to the unputdownability keeping me up late at night. I was desperate to finish reading and find out what happened. And a lot happened. This story was full of mysteries and surprises.

Yes, I've loved detective mysteries for many years. I think they are the first books I read, like Nancy Drew.

I've done that sitting-up-half-the-night to get a book finished. lol

Unfortunately, I usually fall asleep reading and wake up, try to figure out where I left off and have to read a paragraph or two over again.
