4 July - What I'm Thankful for Today

Good afternoon from hot Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA. It has clouded over and will start raining soon. The current temperature is 80 F. Today, we, as Americans, have every reason to be thankful. We live in the greatest country in the world. Our freedoms fought for by those who went before in the Revolutionary War for Independence, guaranteed rights and privileges not many countries enjoy. We are a truly blessed country. What are the freedoms our forefathers fought for? The Bill of Rights guarantees these freedoms that, sadly, many Americans take for granted and don't think about anymore. First Amendment: Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of assembly. Second Amendment: The right of the people to keep and bear arms. Third Amendment: Restricts housing soldiers in private homes. Fourth Amendment: Protects against unreasonable search and seizure. Fifth Amendment: Protects against self-testimony, being tried twice for the same crime, and seizure of property under eminent domain. Sixth Amendment: The rights of a speedy trial, trial by jury, and to the services of a lawyer. Seventh Amendment: Guarantees trial by jury in cases involving a certain dollar amount. Eighth Amendment: Prohibits excessive bail or fines and cruel and unusual punishment for crimes. Ninth Amendment: Listing of rights in the Bill of Rights does not mean the other rights are not in effect. Tenth Amendment: Power not granted to the Federal Government is reserved for states or individual people. George Mason wrote this Bill of Rights in 1776. How many of you, like me, didn't know what all our rights guaranteed? We have much to be thankful for as a nation. Today, as you get ready to enjoy the fireworks, take a moment to think about what it means and thank God for the freedoms you enjoy. What are you thankful for today? Thanks for reading. Happy Birthday America. 248 years strong! I'm proud to be an American!

I may be sad George and I are at home and not at our staycation place. However, I am thankful I can feel sad. I am thankful he's even here for me to complain and feel bad that I'm missing out on yet another thing important to us. But, he's alive. I am thankful for that. I'm thankful about the pushback I'm getting from him. He's talking about food. Not sure what he can and can't have. I might have a bit of a fight, but I will make hotdogs for him later. I am thankful I got the dishwasher going.

@just4him I'm real bad when it comes to that. I'm good at washing dishes or blankets. I'm good about doing a lot of things. But, since I can't force a meal down George everynight, I don't fill the dishwasher as fast.

You have much to be thankful for. George is alive for you to enjoy all the successes in his journey to total health. I'm glad you got the dishwasher going.

@kaylachan When we had a dishwasher, it wouldn't get used for up to a week!

I'm thankful to be alive this very day to enjoy the freedom of our rights that's slowly being taken away by those in govt that don't like what America STANDS for & has not heart or soul in what they are doing to the great American history of our rights.

They haven't taken them away yet. I don't think Americans will allow it.

@2ndchances24 Yes, we can. We have a voice. It's that voice that kept this country from going under in the past and will keep it in the future too.

I am thankful that also our Italian Constitution protect us and give us a long list of rights guaranteed. I should have a look also at the Swiss Constitution, this one is not something I studied in school.

@just4him Our passport is one of the best in the world and (at least on the paper) we have full of guaranteed rights. Why should I change my nationality?

They sure are not keeping with the 6th when it comes to Trump. We should all be very thankful for our rights. That is why we need to be sure and vote for Biden because Trump has plans to smash the Constitution and all it stands for if he is elected. That really scares me. I so hope that people aren't ignorant enough to vote for Trump.

The American people won't allow him to change the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. People tried before, and it didn't happen.

We are blessed in every way possible. Other nations don't have 1/2 the privileges we enjoy! I'm thankful to be an American:)

Great post and a great reminder of the many freedoms we are afforded by law in this country. And that's a great looking flag hanging on your porch of course, as well. Happy birthday America!
