I am my own landlord

Nobody above me is responsible for repairs to this elderly house. So its hubby and me who get to foot the bill for house need its. There used to be carpet on the upstairs hallway- until this morning there was shag carpet there. We had a fix it guy come out and rip all that carpet out. We could see where the pups had had boo boos. Bye bye dirt and disaster! The fix it man found a square in the floor- in a side alcove- that was punky so he worked that area into a viable stepping place. (No falling through into my dining room, thank you very much!) Tomorrow he will come back and sand down the wood planks. 124 year old wood planks. Yup. Not going to look like Home Depot. Fine. Sure will be easier to keep clean. Bye bye to a lot of pocket change. Having a nicer hallway will be worth it. I had fun looking at the solid chunks of wood that Fix It Guy removed. I am not sure what I will do with some of the little piece of tongue and groove wood but they're sure pretty in their own yesteryear way.

I know that feeling, for me however it's all on me as all my spare funds go to pet stuff. Cats are more expensive than dogs.

@rebelann Fur kids are very spendy. The Vet wouldn't give me needed calming meds for Rufus unless he examined Rufus. I needed those calming meds for the Fourth. So I paid for that exam as well as those meds.

@rebelann I'm glad you got a little rest. Putting loud noise on does not distract Rufus. Even in the daytime he paced, looking out the windows for the creeps that were going to get him.

Roscoe kept me in sight even when I went to the bathroom, he was whining most of the time but I think having the TV on helped a little.

Thanks. @Dena91 The fellow is getting a sweet paycheck so he isn't crying.

@Dena91 The man earned more than my husband's monthly pension check in just a weekend. He also did hard, precise work that I do not have the know how to do or the physical strength.

@GardenGerty Often the pricey worker knows more what to do the cheap guy. This latest repair needs to last for many years.

@GardenGerty We paid him plenty. I do not have a way to haul that much junk off.

@JudyEv It was. I'm glad I wasn't down on my hands and knees cutting yucky carpet out.

Yep, when you own a house you have all the issues that go along with it.

This is the main reason I never bought a home of my own. I knew couldn't pay for the upkeep of one. Your home is 124 years old? That's back when things were built well and to last.

@celticeagle My house was built in 1900. I am glad we had the fix it guy here today. There was a floor spot that was punky- falling through the floor to the living room down below would have been too much excitement for me.

I have had every type of DIY person in the house since my husband has been gone...electricians, plumbers, garage door people, window people, etc. It never ends. Have a good day.
