Violence. My grandson was assaulted yesterday.

There´s more and more violence in the streets of the city I live.
I can say "good morning" to you, but it has not been a good morning to me nor the day ended well either.
Yesterday my eldest grandson was coming out of a restaurant at 9 pm with a girl when he was assaulted by 5 men (young) with knives. He received whay cops call "minor cuts in the face". But for us that is not minor.
In these 2 years several of the people I know closely have been harmed by violence.
Dixie was run over as I have told you, around 2 years ago. She never got well and one of her legs hurt her badly. She cannot have surgery (although one of the doctors says that no harm will come to her) because of her heart condition. But she has to be in a very bad shape to accept anesthesia.
Then Catalina, Camila´s best friend, was killed by a bus while coming back home in a bicycle. The bus driver said that "he hadn´t seen her". No comments. The only thing that I thanked for is that it was all so violent that she died instantly and did not suffer.
A week ago, Leticia was also run over by a car. She had a concussion and has a broken leg.
And now Daniel was assaulted. He did not have a chance. They were 5 and had knives. They stole his cellphone but what worries me are his injuries. He has minor cuts in his face as Tania told me. But she hasn´t seen him. Anyway Daniel´s father is a doctor so I hope that he is well taken care of. His companion though is terribly shocked. Besides the physical abuse, she thought for some time that she´d be raped. But they only wanted what material things they had.
Some of you know that 4 or 5 years ago my house was burglarized. After decades of living in a good neighborhood, the burglars came twice within a period of a few months.
And a couple of months ago, burglars entered my neighbor´s house and stole everything they had, including their safe.
Gangs and bad people here have assalt weapons. And cops use a sort of water pistol or the like.
The bad chiefs hire minors because minors will not be prosecuted. Only in a few countries minors who commit crimes or even felonies go to any sort of jail.
How is violence where you live? I live in a large city, with several millions of inhabitants, so all this is worse.

I am so sorry for all those awful things that have happened to family and dear friends, I pray your grandson will not have any physical scars from this ordeal and that he will be able to get some kind of therapy to help with the shock he must have suffered

My daughter told me that he wasn´t psychologically shoked. He had an awful shock months ago when an evil GF broke up with him when he was very ill. It seems that after that he accepts everything. Nothing can be worse.

I am so sorry for Daniel, no matter how bad his wounds are I know that the shock will be with him forever. I cannot feel someone coming behind me after I have been assaulted in Miami. There is no violence where I live but I wonder for how long?

Daniel told Tania that he is not much shocked. He had such a shock last year with an evil GF he had, that nothing can be be worse.

Your poor, sweet grandson, and his companion must be so shocked. Violence is up here in general, but because of that, there aren’t enough places to house the criminals. The more liberal politicians want to shorten sentences for these crimes on the basis of stupid reasons.
Where I live is pretty safe if you’re home before dark. That shouldn’t matter, but it does if you live in my area. It’s still safer than where I grew up.

I'm so sorry to hear about Daniel and hope his injuries are minor. Unfortunately the trauma will take a long time to get over (if ever).
I don't live in a violent area but I see nothing but violence on the news everywhere. It seems as if the world has gone crazy.

My daughter talked to Daniel and he told her that he wasn´t very shocked. Last year, he had an evil GF that broke it will him when he had his appendix ruptured. He told Tania that that had been much worse.

@marguicha at least he's doing better and that's the important thing. A cellphone can be replaced.

Oh god, this is definitely not good to hear. This hurts. And I agree with you... This is not minor, though the cuts may be. I wonder where the culture is going. People don't have any kind of patience these days. Only a few things going wrong turn into violence. And this is totally wrong. I'm so sorry to hear this, I'm repeating.
You are right. People can cover up under the minors. But what happens is, the minors get fast money, and they fall into these things in early life, effectually destroying their future.
Violence and these things are everywhere. Only the volume changes.

Women waiting for justice is also a thing here. I don't understand how can men beat and torture their ladies, especially when they love them. Or is their love untrue? Women and girls should select their mates wisely. That's only I can say.

So true. Abusers living normally... But yes, it's the fact that they don't love them. Otherwise, they wouldn't get such a treatment. But that's how our society is after all. And that's quite a sad thing.

@abhi_bangal They don´t love them. And they are either sick. Or mean. Or both. There are a lot of abusers that look like normal people.

Violence is everywhere. I was told by my best friend (a doctor) that I should go out and walk. I don´t dare go out alone. And Luna is not trained to go out as she was a puppy when we were in quarantine. Now it is too late. I prefer to have leg problems than to be assaulted in the streets.

We too have burglary in our city. I should say the police here is inactive and get a percentage from the robbers. My house was robbed, I lost all my jewelry and valuables but the police just sat on the file.

It happens the same way here. I lost everything I had just before the pandemia. And my closest neighbor had her house robbed a few months ago.

I am so very sorry what happened. I am also glad to know Daniel will recover, and his friend is OK, with the exception of they were both terribly traumatized, of course.
Here in the US, we do have violence. Sometimes in the cities, and surprisingly, sometimes in the rural areas. A person just never knows what to expect. Sadly, depending on where they are located, the threat of violence often keeps people isolated and alone, which isn't always good, either.
I hope Daniel and his friend heal quickly from the injuries, and from the trauma. I truly am sorry this happened.

I always say that it is us, the good people, who are in jail. We don´t dare go out any more. The streets are taken by bad people.

@MarieCoyle It is a shame. Years ago I could have my windows open at night during summer. Not anymore.

I do know that myself, as well as my friends and family, are a lot more proactive about being as safe as we can be now. There are just too many angry, mean people out there who don't seem to care who they hurt or what they do, just so they get what they want. It's very sad.

Tania told me that his father was taking him to block the phone, cards and whatever else was stolen. That means, I suppose, that he is not much injured.

My best friend's son was just about ran over by a car. He was helping a friend change a tire. He had to get a stint put in his liver and some tubes in his side. He is home now and got one tube taken out. He's 22 years old.
My mother's co-worker almost got shot at.

This used to be a very nice neighborhood. Now I live with all my windows closed and I even made 2 fences for Luna so that she doesn´t get too near the sidewalk. I´m terrified that someone might poison her.

That's awful! Seriously, world is becoming more unsafe each day. Such things keep happening every where. We are not at peace unless all loved ones reach home safely. And we keep hearing stories where home is also not safe.
I hope that he gets better fast. It would be more of a mental and emotional trauma than the actual physical wounds.

@marguicha Dark makes me scared too. I strictly ask my daughters to be back home by 7. It's scary times everywhere. People have lost sensitivity. Something happens to someone on the street and no one comes forward to help. People shoot and put it on social media. They are scared to help. Crimes at times happen in broad daylight.
