The hurricane has hit Texas. One of the Houston TV stations website is reporting two million without power right now. I’m certainly praying for them. As for you, y’all get another Texan to enjoy the music from. Did you know Beyoncé is from Texas? I mention that because she has more popularity than today’s singer. James McMurtry Known only to me and @TheHorse around these parts, you may at least recognize his last name. His father was Terms of Endearment and Lonesome Dove author Larry McMurtry. While you’ve never heard of him, he’s quite the superstar in Americana. He’s won a number of Americana Music Association awards and has been nominated for Grammy awards. Lyrically, he is definitely his father’s son. Songs like “Choctaw Bingo” and “Crazy Wind” are novellas set to music. I got in on the ground floor with McMurtry. He was the opening act for the BoDeans on the first dates of their 1989 Home tour, so I got to see him and meet him. Here we are, 35 years later, and he’s still making some of the most thoughtful music out there. James McMurtry Born March 18, 1962 Fort Worth (age 62) His humorous side shows here in the song “I’m Not From Here”:

Since John Prine left us, he and Greg Brown are the two best living American songwriters.

@kobesbuddy He is not among my favorite songwriters, honestly. I think he was British.

I agree with Kharla...he looks very much like John Lennon. I'm not familiar with this song or artist. Have a good day.

I always thought he looked exactly like his dad, but that’s what I get for reading a McMurtry novel…I know what he looked like. James does resemble a hippy-looking Lennon.
