She's the key to the whole case. All he has to do is keep her alive to testify. Protecting the key witness in a high-profile trial is security expert Cal Newfellow's top priority. But keeping Marlise alive becomes a test of courage and will when they're attacked and forced into hiding. Battered but not broken, Marlise also has a mission: to put a dangerous criminal behind bars forever. That means trusting a man battling his own demons. The man sworn to help her heal... and survive. ~~~~ This is the first time I have a read a book in less than 24 hours... and a ball game to watch on tv as well. I couldn't put this book down. WOULDN'T put this book down. Security expert Cal Newfellow is in charge of protecting a witness (Marlise) who was a victim of a sex trafficking ring. But the traffickers were a step ahead of them. So now it was up to them to find the new leader of the ring. Along with Roman and Mina (from book #1 - Going Rogue in Red Rye County), they put their lives at risk to leave the compound and find the woman in charge. In the meantime, Cal and Marlise both have feelings for each other which they are fighting. Their pasts have built brick walls around their hearts. They need to focus on the job at hand. This is a 3 book series - The Red River Slayer comes out later this month. And I think I know who it's going to be about. Harlequin romance novels have evolved to different and exciting categories. Harlequin Intrigue are fascinating, intriguing stories. Yes, there's romance, but I find the intrigue the main storyline and is a real page-turner. Mystery, Suspense , Action, Danger, Romance and no fluff... this book has it all. A must read.

Hi @patgalca Seems like an interesting read. The plot may be quite the usual, but it's really in the way the writer wrote the story, right? Happy reading!

I've never read anything like this. They are not cops or FBI. They are a private security company. But what makes it such an easy fast read is there was no fluff. It was all important information and action. A lot of tension.

@patgalca edge of the seat, right? What's your opinion if it's turned into a movie somehow? Some avid readers just hate it when their fave book gets turned into a movie. I dunno, maybe because the plot changed, the actors don't portray exactly, or maybe because the story would lose its exclusivity by becoming mainstream. Only few book-to-movie deserves the merit.

@__iVl___ I could see this as a movie because I think there is very little they could omit from the screenplay. I read it in the period of one day which says a lot for me. The romantic element is not immediately clear as the story is more based on the suspense and mystery. Like I said, there is no fluff. It's all business and action. The only issue might be that this is the second book in a series and as I read the beginning of the book I was trying to remember what happened in the first book. But the author filled in the back story and brought it all back to me. So this story could not be a movie without the first story, or perhaps shown in flashbacks.
