7/9/24 - Update on My Husband

We received another bill from the rehab facility. This one was for $11,200.00. This is incorrect because they are charging $375 per day which is the private room rate. I get to call my second favorite person, Millie in the Business Office. We should have been charged $9,000.00. Hubby was pretty tired and didn't have a stellar performance in physical therapy. He actually had his leg go out on him while he was walking with the walker. He hasn't done steps in quite a while; and he's going to ask about that. The cost, wanting him to come home and being tired of being alone are starting to stress me out. I've been pretty good up until this point. I want him to stay until he is capable of coming home; but it's taking forever. Hubby's 3rd cousin will send the appeal form back by registered mail tomorrow. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

You have been such a trooper through this entire ordeal, which began back in early February. I remember your shock and disbelief, to the coping and handling of the prognosis, to the hospital delirium to the PT to the broken hip and then more PT and then a slight setback recently with his b/p and circulation. You have every right to be stressed out. But remember........... you are not alone Your friends here love and care for you and pray for you as well as your hubby. That will not stop.

I'll link Carry On, by Crosby Stills Nash and Young. Rejoice. We have no choice but to carry on. Are there exercises he can do for his leg strength while he's lying in bed? When I had ACL surgery, 23 years ago, I was literally doing leg lifts the night I got home. If I were there, I'd slap some Depends on him, fill him full of Gatorade (so he doesn't cramp up, which I do often), and make him do "assisted leg lifts" for muscle tone.

Thanks for the link. He could use a champion such as yourself to lead him in his exercises. He doesn't do them in bed very often.

It sounds as if he has regressed a bit unfortunately. I really think you need to check out what the VA has to offer. You will go broke if he stays in that place where he is not doing well. Hang in there!

@LindaOHio Does he know how much his stay there is going to potentially cost out of pocket? You have to save something if you should end up somewhere like that as well.

Thanks for the suggestion; but my husband doesn't want me to pursue the VA.

@snowy22315 Right now it's costing $300 per day. They haven't billed us for anything but the room so far. We went on self-pay on May 11.

That is preposterous! You should complain! How can you afford to pay that? I can understand you are stressed. I hope he'll be OK to come home soon. Can't you get a physical therapist to come out to your house? I hope the appeal form will be successful. We are all here for you.

Thank you for your support. He will get 2 weeks of in-home therapy. Then, if he needs it, he must go out to a facility and pay $40 per session.

@LindaOHio My pleasure. Will the in-home therapy have to be paid for? I think $40 a session is a bit pricey. I hope he can come home soon.

They are even trying to cheat you. Your husband does not have a private room, I am sure they are also charging the days he was at the hospital, that is not correct. You are going through so much stress. We are here to support you.

I'm kind of surprised that you've been able to deal with all of this for all this time. It has to be so hard doing everything yourself and I wish I lived closer and could help (or at least stop in for a visit). I hope that you can sort out that bill and that your hubby gets stronger. I'm always thinking of you Linda and certainly in my prayers.

I just pray that enough complaining to the correct agency has made them check to see why rehabs do nothing to promote rehabilitation.

That's fantastic, maybe now those agencies will force rehabs to adhere to regulations that force them to actually heal their patients.

They actually had some people come around and ask residents about their care. They complained about the food and how long it takes to get an answer to their call lights.
