7/10/24 - Update On My Husband - Part 1

He was tired yesterday and didn't do too well. All the residents have a wheelchair without footrests so they can "walk" the wheelchair around. My husband had walked his wheelchair all the way to PT and was quite exhausted. He was too tired to attempt steps; so they will do that on Thursday.
Millie from the Business Office didn't return my call; so I sent her an email.
The final form for the appeal/hearing is on its way via registered mail thanks to our housekeeper.
Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts.

Well hopefully Thursday that will go well and he won't be too tired then.

Yes, he must be able to do steps to come home. There are 3 steps into the house.

That’s a bummer to hear, but unfortunately the reality is that there will always be good days and bad days, and the best we can hope for is more good days than bad days. I will continue to keep both of you in my prayers.

@LindaOHio I know how disappointing that can be when real life doesn’t want to follow your planned timeline. Just keep the faith.

Thanks, Jeff. I'm just disappointed because we both said "2 weeks" the 1st of July.

If he feels tired, better don't push himself too hard.

@LindaOHio My Grandpa used to do that when he was in a nursing home during the last few years of his life.

@Juliaacv I wish my husband would do that more often. He needs to ask one of the aides or nurses to help him into his wheelchair.

Yes, the residents often walk themselves up and down the hallways.

That sounds a little encouraging that he could "walk" that far.

@LindaOHio It's been a long five months with all you've both been through. Still praying he'll be home soon.

It's 3 steps forward and 2 steps back at his age. I'm trying to be patient; but the costs are so high and he's been gone since February 1.

@1creekgirl Thank you. It seems like he has reached a plateau; and any improvements are coming very, very slowly. He has a lot of muscle and mass to regain.

Unfortunately assisted living doesn't have nurses and aides. He can't go to the bathroom by himself, he needs help changing, etc. But thanks for the suggestion. He's recovering so slowly because he will be 83 in August. Getting old sucks. I don't recommend it.

I hope he can get some good rest before attempting PT again. I’m sure it’s exhausting for him.

He rides a stationary bike for 15 minutes Monday through Friday. The PT people should be preparing him for going home and concentrating on steps and on my husband being able to get in and out of bed and the wheelchair. He will need to get in and out of his recliner at home.

@rebelann I suggested getting a lift chair; but he says he wants to try one out first.

Those office people are lax, they aren't doing their job. At least your husband is using his legs, that's beneficial.

@kobesbuddy He does 15 minutes on a stationary bike, does walking with a walker...I don't know what else he does.

That's the one thing I have noticed about all these places. No one walks, even if they are able. They put them in wheelchairs and they scoot themselves around the joint. It seems counterproductive to me that they do that. If you can walk, WALK. Why just purposely vegetate people?

@LindaOHio I am saying some can, yet they won't let them.
