Back from my long hot trip into the city. While I was there I saw a young woman with her paintings displayed on the grass beside Broad Street .(Main Street through town) It gets a decent amount of traffic. She only had 3 or 4 displayed, but I guess that is one way to sell to sell your artwork. I wonder if she ever did?Have you seen people selling their artwork in a suburban area?

Thankfully I live in an area that is very supportive of local authors and artists, many of our local shops will sell their works in their businesses!

Well there is. Difference with it being sold in a shop and trying to make a go of it out on the street

@snowy22315 We do have street artists too, especially on the main streets, along with street musicians, who rely on the kindness of strangers...

We have at least 4 major art festivals in our city each year, and downtown does an artwork on the first Friday of every month. I love going to look at art whenever there is an event!

That is cool. There is an art gallery here, but you never see them being sold on the sidewalk or beside a street though

@moffittjc I would like to see more of that actually. However, summer may not be the best time of the year for that

@snowy22315 The University of Florida, which is about a mile from my house, has a very impressive art gallery. It’s huge. I love strolling through its many rooms and hallways and floors admiring all their art. But I also love seeing art displayed in the public—on sidewalks and outside of shops and businesses. It’s like taking the arts to the streets to meet the people where they’re at, instead of making the people go to art galleries where the art is at. If that makes any sense.

I saw photographs, and its really good, but I don't usually see it after pandemic and specially everything is online now. I hope she was able to sell all of it, I really admire those who really do efforts to sell their art works. But I hope she can able to sell it online, since everything is online already.

@snowy22315 I hope she can make it this time and never give up. And I hope you can do other things that will make her more creative an unique, until she finds her market. God bless.

@snowy22315 The place where I have seen more people selling artworks in the streets was New Orleans.

Selling artwork is such a sorry business. Like trying to sell poetry. I admire the woman for giving it a go. Your description reminds me of what I have seen when I visited Victoria, Canada. People do attempt to sell all manner of things there, including elf hats.

@snowy22315 There was a little girl in the going home ferry line that was having a fine time wearing one of those felt elf hats. Made me smile.

Oh no doubt. You don't see people too much selling art on the street in the US..outside of big cities that is.

@snowy22315 It is pretty common here in Bath there are lucrative art studios and also the struggling street artists. I wish I can afford art.

I hope so. Where she was positioned though, it really wouldn't have been easy for people to stop.

I love the vibe a town has when you can drive through it and see displays of art like that out for sale on people's front lawns.
We have stopped and purchased a homemade bird house from someone who had a display out on their front lawn years ago. He was on disability and that was his way of making ends meet. I was really glad that we had that encounter. The birdhouse became the centre of a berm that we had put in at our place in the country, it still stands there, and we sold that property 7 years ago. I guess we choose something pleasing to others.

I was only able to get a glimpse of the paintings as I drove by, but they didn't look like anything special. Nice use of color though.

I remember seeing some artist selling their artwork on the streets of downtown New Orleans many years ago.

We had an art show in Tawas City Park in June. Artists are selling their art work that's on exhibit each year. If it rains, they have open front tents to protect them. Anyone can walk around and look, if they don't want to buy. The handmade jewelry is beautiful, but very expensive. Also, we have an art shop in East Tawas. For a percentage, they will exhibit art for various artists.

Yeah, I like arts festivals. It seems there are more artsy kind of photos than paintings though

@snowy22315 There were paintings displayed at Tawas Village one summer. It was a festive occasion, to raise money for the assisted living home. Signs were all over town, many people came for this special occasion. Also, the facility was taking donations, from those who were able give.
