Scammers helping you outwit the scammers

The photo has nothing to do with the text. Scammers never stop trying, do they? They come up with all sorts of ways to try to trick people into paying out money for nothing. There seems no end to their inventiveness. Australia has a National Anti-Scam Centre (NASC) that works to protect people from scams. Scammers are claiming to be from this organisation, telling their victims various stories about how their information has been hacked. They may also claim to be from various other fund recovery services, cyber security organisations, lawyers, consumer advocacy groups and suchlike. This tactic is called ‘authority exploitation’, leveraging people’s trust in authority and making them less likely to query if the caller is genuine or not.

I've seen spam emails like that before, I thought it was pretty hilarious. Thankfully most if not all these emails end up in the spam folder, but it never hurts to double check whether the sender is legit or not.

One of the olddest scames in the book. Ligit companies warn against such scams by reminding users repeadily that they would never call and ask for personal information.

@JudyEv I was on a call with a video presatation thing, and a scammer tried to interupt us. startled me at first because I couldn't figure out where the beeping was coming from. then I realized it was someone trying to call. didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. Hell they hung up. so oh well.

Yes, that's true. Once they start wanting personal information, it's best to hang up immediately.

That is such a pretty little bird. I got one this morning someone supposedly thanking me for making a 745 dollar paypal payment...as if! I ignore everything that looks at all like a scam, and most unsolicited emails.

Every person need to be aware of them however no matter how much we are aware and well informed about them sometimes there are many people falls in their trap. I once come across one video, it seems they use some kind of social engineering or pig butchering tactics

Even if one in a hundred fall victim the scammers have had their day. And I keep getting messages from anti-virus companies my system is porous. And they keep adding to their demands to make it foolproof. That looks like another scam!

Anti-virus companies are also suspect. I get a lot now saying I've ordered something and it's been delayed or isn't available. Contact them, etc, etc, to fix it.

I have a true caller app downloaded in my smartphone which shows if it's a scammer and therefore I am safe.

@JudyEv You can download that on a smartphone but for landline phones you need a caller ID phone.

Hmm, that's a new angle I have not heard of... If these scammers spent as much time and effort into getting a real paying job instead of trying to scam people, they could be very successful.

Earlier, there was this Nigerian Price or ambassador sharing their wealth with us ! I also remember impersonating to get money from people .Well, never bothered on these as first no money to share and second why bother to respond to strangers.Well, good to know on these .Thanks for sharing!
