At 6:42 this morning, my friend texted me her earth shattering news.
Her favorite baseball player was being forced to sell his newly bought mansion because there were too many stalkers and break ins.
Is this something I really needed to know that early in the morning ?
Do you ever get annoyed by unimportant texts, calls, or notifications at the weirdest times? What time do you think is too early or too late to text someone in a non-emergency?

Actually she will sometimes text very late at night . I'm up early, but everyone else is asleep . . . so much for trying to keep things quiet. Oh, she will go on and on about her favorite athletes and celebrities, as if she knows them personally .

@rebelann She is actually quite sharp . . . just a bit quirky . My friend will start talking about advice she would give to these athletes or celebs . . . but honestly I think if she met any of them she would clam up. Oh no - poor co-worker! My high school journalism teacher claimed she was s assaulted by Elvis!

That does sound like something that could have waited. I have a friend that I used to live near but since I moved quite a few years ago we haven't seen each other. She still sends me all sorts of things from our old neighborhood that has no bearing on my life. There are days that I want to block her on Facebook and my phone.

@Marilynda1225 How annoying. I guess these kinds of people want to keep you in the loop - in case you want to be kept in the loop - except that they don't realize we DON'T want to be kept in the loop .

@much2say most of the things she tags me on Facebook or sends me a message through FB. The latest thing was about cameras that were installed for speeding. Why would I be interested when I don't live there?? it's that type of stuff that drives me crazy. She doesn't send me many texts (thankfully) and then again when she does it's random things like asking a question about something that happened 20 years ago.

I do not know, I threw my phone out the car window years ago. I have never looked back. I never miss it but corporate America is trying to get me to miss it.
People silly sometimes, but work was always worse with smart phones. You pretty much 24/7 on call, no matter your job if they know your number, the biggest reason I threw that crap out of window.

Wow, @crossbones27 - now that is some self discipline there. I mean, I'm not big on the phone, yet I have one . . . I don't know how you've been without for a decade. But it goes to show it's not impossible to be without . . . you are living proof !

I don't blame you . . . wish I could do the same! We came from a generation where we actually lived without having a stupid phone attached to us. Now it seems like everyone is stuck on their phones with super glue . . . seems like life and their manners went out the window.
Did you really throw your phone out the car window ?

@much2say I did but it was a cheap one. My boss gave me his for a while. I go this much cooler when its not in my name. He wanted it back though. I mean he was paying the bill but it was one of those family plans, not really costing him extra other than I just had his phone. The was last time I had a cell phone, 10 years ago.

Hello, hope you are well.
I never keep my phone in our bedroom. AFTER I had my breakfast I check if someone sent sill txt messages that I do not even care to read.
It's ALWAYS too early and too late to text meaningless messages. Anyway never before 9 am and never after 8 pm is a good rule of thumb.

Yay - it's LadyDuck !
I have to keep my phone nearby or at least on in case my mother calls in an emergency.
I guess this particular friend is the only one who does this (normally it is late into the night with her). You are so right - my parents taught us the very same phone time rule!!
Thank you - we are "ok". Hope you and your husband have been well too .

That is really weird. I’m also wondering who the baseball player is because I watch it. Lol I don’t watch it enough to want to hear about it that early in the morning though!
I have a friend who knows I am up late or get up early, so she’ll text me anytime. And she texts in shorts bursts which drives me nuts. Ding! Ding! Ding! I want to sleep, and it never stops!

Shohei Ohtani - from the Dodgers . She literally obsesses about certain athletes and gets into their personal lives. I like him too, but did not need to know this detail about him right then. I was already awake but was in my stretching routine . . . my peace was distrupted .

@much2say I think unless you tell her it bothers you you are going to keep hearing from Miss Earlybird in the AM. Or if you don't feel comfortable just say you are doing yoga, praying or meditating or something.

@snowy22315 Usually I will hear her text notifications late at night . . . but it doesn't bother me as much as I'm only half asleep anyway. The morning ones are rare, but it is annoying. Funny, but I was stretching at that time . . . my disturbed my peace time .

These days many people circulate messages at any time.
I try not to check messages very early in the morning or late evening until it is related to kids' schools.
I just hope that people at large become more sensitized in such cases.

I remember back in the days of only the telephone (landline), my parents would say it was rude to call before 9am and after 9pm. That still keeps in my head. I will check messages if I am awake at the time, but I won't reply if it's late or that it can wait. Right - for the kids schools, I will also check, but luckily in most cases the schools send messages at the appropriate times.

That depends on each one's wakeful hours. As for me I check for messages at any time in the day.

@much2say Small wonder she is a big fan of this baseball player ! It seems to be an excusable action.

I make all my calls between 10 am - 9 pm. I think that's reasonable. Have a good weekend.

I would shut off my notifications during my "me time" because from the sound of things she has no sense of what is proper. Sometimes my best friend will text me later than I would like, but I do not answer. My routine is so weird she would never guess anyway. I will text or call a business after 8 a.m. up until 4 p.m. Socially, I would text about 9 a.m clear up until maybe 9 p.m. but no later.

I would love to turn my phone off at times, but I make myself available to my mom 24/7 - in case of emergency (she is good about phone times - she never calls me at odd times). Actually most people are good about it - it's just this one friend . The between 9 and 9 seems to be the going phone etiquette.

That would be real early. However, I have sleep focus on and do not disturb until noon. So I don't get unimportant notifications are calls during my do not disturb time.

That certainly was not news you wanted at that hour of the morning, I think people get too carried away with the popular people they are fans of,
