"The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning."-Mitch Albom's Tuesdays with Morrie
Transect Walk: A walk of getting to know the community.
I volunteered with one goal, to get to know the communities where we will gather data for our thesis, and listen to stories of the people but I've realized, I learned about myself more.
The Municipality of Sto. Domingo is rich indeed rich in natural resources. I have come to discover varieties of mangroves and in Barangay Nanerman, you can discover 2 or probably more that are serving as the barangay's natural barriers. Learned that Barangay Calay-ab is indeed rich of both flora and fauna (almost 3 km in more than an hour of walk is all worth it), not to mention they have heritage tree-bittaog with stories, an addition to its port ruins along the Puerto Beach. In Barangay Suksukit, a lot of nipa palm trees can be found, and I kept asking for its fruits but there were none. Barangay Sived and Casili are two neighboring barangays, and it was only yesterday that I have learned what part of the beach belongs to Sived and Casili, for both share the same lovely beach where beach goers opt to enjoy swimming and sunset.
Five barangays (coastal zones), two days.
During the course of our transect walk, I have learned that there are so many things I have been missing, deep conversations with other people from residents to Agriculture and BS Marine Bio students. Not to mention I miss being a child who wamted to pick guavas and mulberries.
I WANDER, WONDER, and PONDER.
It was physically exhausting but there's more of the learnings. The Public Ad student never left my heart to the point of suggesting an ordinance that can protect the birds of one barangay.

Wow! That sounds interesting. I am sure that the long walk must have been exhausting. But it was worth all the things that you explored and learnt about. Isn't it? It must be a spectacular walk with so much of green around.

What a profound experience! Your dedication to understanding and connecting with the community shines through your words. It sounds like your transect walk was not just about data but also about personal growth and rediscovery. Keep wandering, wondering, and pondering! It's where the richest insights often lie.
