Meta's Change of Course

There was a time when sites like Twitter and Facebook had a lot of power and control over their platform's users. They still do, to some extent, but would you be able to silence the President of the United States? Maybe. But it would not seem to be too smart of a move, honestly. As the writing is becoming clearer on the wall that Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president in January, Zuckerberg's teams have decided to lift restrictions on his accounts. Trump's Twitter (now X) account was restored months ago after Elon Musk became the owner of the social media site, although Trump has never really returned, preferring to use his own Truth Social instead.

It's funny how these millionaires and billionaires that run all these companies in the US will change their tune in a heartbeat to protect themselves based on who is in power in the White House. It goes to show that they really could care less who the President is, as long as they can continue making money.

Very true. I pointed out to our buddy Greg from Wapella (which is somewhere between Mars and LaLa Land) that CEOs have largely resigned themselves to Trump. Their loyalties are to the businesses they own and the money they generate, and when the president is someone who happens to have influence on things like regulations, laws and taxes... You don't really want to make too much noise against them. In the case of Zuckerberg, he's a fish Trump might want to fry. Sites like Facebook and X have long wanted to remain outside of "news organization" status, which would GREATLY take away their control over content, since they would then have to abide by the 1st Amendment. Zucky doesn't want to give up that control, and he figures, MAYBE if he plays nice with Trump, he might look for a different fish to toss into the frying pan. Zucky may be a tool, but he's not a dull one in the shed in which he resides.

It's over, Greg. Why not just face the facts? You always say our side is locked in. But I think its the other way around. I have never seen an HONEST response from you at all. EVER. It's why I mostly just play along with you. It's entertainment. I never consider anything to be a serious exchange.

So is he now able to post on FB again? Not that he'd want to probably.

@porwest I read a headline that said that Trump said he is lucky to be alive and that he praised the secret service. Did he really praise the secret service? They should've apprehended the shooter as soon as they saw him instead of waiting till he fired shots at Trump to do something about it.

But I think to criticize the Secret Service immediately after this probably would have had terrible optics and he was right not to do it.

Yes. He can post on Facebook again. As for whether he will do that? Maybe. Maybe not. I know he's pretty much avoided X ever since Musk let him back on the site. Although much of his Truth Social stuff gets tweeted out of an account that retweets Truth Social posts from Trump. I guess we'll have to see what happens once Trump becomes president again. He may be more willing to go back to some of these sites since it would give him better reach to speak directly to the American people.

We can always push back. Granted, sometimes even that doesn't work. But we can still do our best to try.
