I was approved for the low ropes course training next month

My school has the district's JROTC program on our campus. This year they received a grant and had a low ropes course installed. When I heard about it my mind immediately went to the high ropes courses I've seen. This is very different. We were shown some of the elements on one of the last days of school during PD. Pretty much all of the "elements" are, as the name implies, low to the ground. There is one tall wall structure though. The whole point of the course is for groups of students to work together using critical thinking skills to master the challenges. One of the assistant principals sent out an email 2 weeks ago saying that they were offering training on how to facilitate the course next month. It is a 3 day training for 5-6 hours a day and they are paying like $35/hour. All you had to do was respond that you were interested and explain how you would incorporate the course elements into your lessons. I teach biology so that was a no-brainer--during lessons about aerobic and anaerobic cellular respiration (breaking food down to produce energy) and to improve critical thinking skills. The critical thinking skills can be used for the forensic science classes if I get stuck with those again. He replied yesterday that he thinks those are great ideas and that he would add me to the list. Sweet. That's an extra $500 and a great excuse to get out of the classroom on nice days. I am just going to have to shift the order of topics though because I usually hit cellular respiration in early spring when it might be too cold or even snowy to get out there. Should be interesting!

The kids, and you, will enjoy this. Something a bit different for you all while still covering topics you need to teach.

I am sure something interesting to do like that will be fun for you, and the extra money is of course nice.
