I Call It Dirty Rice

Technically, it's not dirty rice, although I have seen multiple takes on similar dishes. But that's just what I call it. Sort of like another dish I make with rice, round steak and peppers I call pepper steak. But it's not like Chinese restaurant pepper steak. It's just what I call the dish when I make that particular one at home. Whatever the dish I call dirty rice would actually be called, all I can say is that it's just good eats no matter the name, and I enjoy making it from time to time since it's cheap, quick and easy—and of course delicious. I just brown some ground beef in a Dutch oven on the stovetop, then add some onions and peppers (this time I used yellow) along with some celery and cook that up a bit. Then I add in some frozen corn. Let that heat up a bit. Then in with 1 cup of raw rice, 4 cups of beef broth, some minced garlic, oregano and Italian seasoning and some Worcestershire sauce. I bring that to a boil and then cover it and simmer it until all the flavors are melded together nicely and the rice is soft, and the liquid is absorbed. Then just serve it up nice and hot. What went on your dinner table last night?

@LindaOHio I am sure you could make better ones at home for sure. I know I had one once at a restaurant and it was not nearly as good as the ones I make.

This version is definitely a play on the dish. Usually it's more Cajun and there are more meat varieties in it. But I like this one. It's good eats for sure.

I just call every kind of rice the same. It’s just rice. Same thing with pasta. I just call every kind of pasta spaghetti. I’m not very sophisticated. Lol

Is this the 'Black rice or Forbidden rice'?

@porwest because, the way you described your kind of rice, Black /Forbiden rice have the same descriptions. They are very low in carbs, which, is ideal for keto diet. I ate it once in green salads with rib eye steak. Never gained an ounce in to my weight.

This is one of those dishes that's so easy to make, fairly economical, and delicious at the same time. A pure winning combination.

Your "dirty rice" sounds really good. I make something similar but haven't given it a name. Last night I had eggplant parm and spaghetti

I've heard of dirty rice. But mine doesn't have meat. My dirty rice is a lot different to yours I think. Mine consists of Brown rice and wild rice and veggies. Last night I had salmon chunks and salmon skewers and a pot of Love, Corn which is roasted corn kernels made into a snack in a packet.
