Posture

Our posture is very impoirtant specially when we spend hours before the computer. There is the tendency to sit with a crouch and this in the long run has adverse effects on our health. And the same applies while we are walking. Apart from health there is grace when one walks with the head held high. I sometimes forget that I should lean back while on the computer and when I do that I do feel less tired specially where my back is concerned. Are you attentive about your posture.?

You are so right. Unfortunately I am not that attentive with my posture. I should as it helps avoid back pain.

I am. But at times I just go easy and tend to crouch. But then I keep reminding me every time. I am tall and so are my daughters. My elder one has very good posture courtesy the years of Bharatnatyam practice. Younger one is not so much conscious about it and I have to keep reminding her too.

I remember my mother reminding me each time I crouched while walking, as a teen ager. Having a height needs handling and I am sure you are doing it right

@allknowing Hmm...your height looks good only if you carry it with right posture and grace. My cousin sister is 5.9 and she is so graceful with her height. I always keep reminding me. I am doing good with it. My elder one carries it very well at 5.7 inches. My younger one and I are almost 5.8 inches. We are the lazy onesand we have to remind each other. But I am really conscious around it.

@arunima25 The one who really bothered about it in our household was our oldest brother. He was particular how we walked. Seems height runs in your family. Must be in your DNA (lol)

In my initial dyas when I started using the laptop I was also very ignorant about how I sit. I didn't care about what amount of stress my back and especially my neck is getting. I just moved on in spite of people suggesting me the correct posture. And me also going through various articles and checking out the images for reference. I was freelancing then for an Italian website and I needed it to work at least eight hours a day. Gradually I came to know that I am sitting in the wrong position. After that only I started to be pretty careful about my sitting posture. So if there is anyone who is new to a sitting job like using a laptop, or any kind of other work, please be careful about your posture from the very beginning. It will help you in the long run.

@allknowing Right. Better safe than sorry. Yeah, I have realized it. But at times, I go back to the incorrect position wrongly. The only difference, I think is that I now know how to sit right. And I can correct myself immediately.

Absolutely! Posture is something I try to be mindful of too, especially when I'm at my computer for long stretches. It really does make a difference in how I feel afterward. How do you remind yourself to check your posture throughout the day?

I always try to 'walk tall'. There are a few women here who are very stooped. It's probably a bit late for them to do much about it.

That's the reason I do some stretching exercises every morning so that if ever I have stood or sat in the wrong position.

I read that doctors are seeing a lot of what they have coined “text neck”. That position has caused a lot of problems for people. I agree, posture is so important, and assuming one can, one should really work to keep it.
