Nonchalant Neighbors

Today, we finished filling up the land on the lot we purchased. Our neighbor bought a truckload of fill dirt because their area became too low after we filled up our lot. However, one truckload of fill dirt seemed insufficient for their needs. When my uncle suggested they order another truckload, they claimed they couldn't afford it. We noticed some other neighbors gathering the fill dirt that spilled onto their property, and even taking some that hadn't spilled onto theirs. Despite our presence, it seemed they didn't acknowledge us and continued collecting. Speaking up was challenging because we aren't familiar with them. My uncle advised my mom to leave to avoid confrontation with our neighbors, fearing it could escalate into an argument. As a precaution, we decided to quickly fence off our lot with sheet metal and bamboo first thing tomorrow morning.

Thank you! Fencing seemed like the best option to avoid any further issues. We're hoping it will bring some peace of mind.

@allknowing That's a good question. We're planning to fence the entire perimeter of our lot and will start early tomorrow. For the side where the neighbor has encroached, we'll have to discuss it with them to ensure it's done fairly and respectfully. Hopefully, we can resolve it without any issues. Thanks for your concern and advice!

@annierose It just occurred to me how will you fence up that side where the neighbour has encroached?

@grenery8 That's so true! A good fence does command respect and helps keep things in order.

That wasn't very nice of them to take that when it didn't belong to them!

Absolutely, it was quite unsettling to see them taking what wasn't rightfully theirs. We hope the fence will help avoid any further misunderstandings.

@sharonelton I don't like to judge them, but I can see they live in considerable poverty. Their houses are quite small, and I wonder how they manage to navigate inside. My mom suggested that perhaps their living conditions haven't improved due to their attitude.
