Etsy: Here We Go Again!

Etsy just started a new promotional sale, back to school up to 60% off. Again that's not part of my profits, that's all of my earnings and then some. Of course, I always have the option not to participate but I don't expect to sell anything before September or October because of this. At that point, they'll probably throw another Christmas sale and I won't sell another thing this year. They are busy destroying the sellers that the site was built for. I wish there were a strategy to inform customers who really want handmade goods from small producers and artists of the need to support us despite these cursed sales promotions.

@koopharper As long as you can opt out I don't see the problem. Since they are a host, this method allows users an easier way to provide discounts who wish to do so, but may not be tech savey enough to navigate it.

There is no problem with me opting out, which I am doing but expectations have been set with the customers. I think Etsy should behave like a platform hosting stores which is what they are not the store.

I was going to sell some things on Etsy, but what I put on there..every time customers would ask me to take less. I quit. I don't mind coming down on a price..I price with that in mind...but they offered way too low. It was an antique pin in perfect condition. Then I was going to sell vintage postcards on Ebay, and our Governor signed a bill to add Sales Tax to all sales on Line. I did not want to deal with that. I guess Marketplace is my last option. Sorry Etsy does that...Why couldn't they just put the sale price on School Items only? Anyway hope things turn out better for you.

It is frustrating. They keep kicking drop shippers off the site but these are the people who make money during these sales not so much the legit sellers. I plan to make a lot of noise about this on Facebook and Reddit. I might even do a YouTube video whining about it. Just not sure it's going to make any difference.

@koopharper Worth a try...might hit them where it hurts if other sellers join you. Can't hurt.

I can understand that you can not afford to sell for less.

I think sales on Etsy should be left to the individual stores to create and announce. It is set up so that I can create my own sales events independent of the site's administrators. I don't understand why they need to get involved. Making a big announcement and then foisting it on all the shop owners I think is very arrogant of them.

I'm sorry this is happening. It does seem very unfair.

I'm brainstorming ideas to mitigate the harm. We'll see what I come up with.

Yes, a platform where people can sell their work or sell vintage items.
