In Bengal the white throated kingfisher is the state bird.

In biological diversity the state birds are taught in school. In bengal it is the white throated kingfisher. The children find it very strange because in the cities like Calcutta they see only crows and sparrows. Birds like kingfisher are found in the dense forests of sunderbans.

I think I am fortunate to reside in rural areas then... I see kingfishers everyday near the ponds, lakes and the streams
