Windows Vista, the next generation of Microsoft Windows, will be available for retail purchase on January 30, 2007. With the release coming so soon after the holiday season, you should know what system to buy
1)Vista Capable PCs vs Vista Premium Ready PCs
2)Vista Upgrades discounts and versions
When choosing a new computer this holiday season, you need to understand the difference between Vista capable and Vista Premium Ready PCs.Vista Capable PC's are able to runWindows Vista, but only Vista Premium Ready PCs can take advantage of all the features available in Vista.
One significant difference between the Vista experience on Vista Capable and Vista Premium Ready PCs is Windows Aero.
Aero is the new interface and visual style designed to make Windows more pleasant and easier to use. Vista Capable PCs aren't able to take advantage of Windows Aero because they don't have the hardware required to run Windows Aero.
When it comes to purchasing a new computer this holiday season, choosing between Vista Capable and Vista Premium Ready PCs is a matter of your budget and the performance you need from the computer. If your budget permits, a Premium Ready PC is better since it will be able to take advantage of all the Vista features, and the higher-end computer will be faster than a Vista Capable PC. If, however, a Vista Premium Ready PC isn't within your budget - a Vista Capable PC will make a great computer for routine use by students and professionals alike.
The amount of the upgrade discount will vary between computer makers, as large companies like Dell and Gateway can set their own discounts. The costs of the discounted upgrades also depends on what XP version you purchase with your new PC this holiday season and what Vista version you wish to upgrade to. Below are the standard discounted costs of upgrading to Vista, although large computer makers can make alternative discounts:
a) If you purchase a new computer with XP home and want to upgrade to Vista Home Basic - $ 49
b) If you purchase a new computer with XP home and want to upgrade to Vista Home Premium - $ 79.
c) If you purchase a new computer with XP Media Center 2005 and want to upgrade to Vista Home Premium - Free.
d) If you purchase a new computer with XP Professional and want to upgrade to Vista Business - Free.
e) If you purchase a new computer with XP Tablet PC edition and want to upgrade to Vista Business - Free.
f) If you purchase a new computer with XP Professional x64 and want to upgrade to Vista Business64 - Free

Now this is a real good topic for me. You see I have a Media Center PC and as you said the upgrade to Vista will be free...well that time will tell, I just hope you are right. As regards the PC itself, well it has a pretty decent configuration and I am sure it is Vista Ready.I look forward to the release.
