It's been a tough week in Hollywood. We've lost a lot of celebrities lately. I think the celebrity that hit me the hardest was probably Shannen Doherty. She was still young and should have had more time but despite her putting up a heck of a fight cancer finally took her from this world as it has so many people. I know a lot of people knew her best for 90210 but I remember her best from Charmed. Prue was probably my least favorite Charmed character but I still admired her positivity while battling her cancer. She was a talented actress. I kind of hate how much flack Alyssa Milano is getting for posting about her though, there was a lot to unpack with Alyssa's relationship with the rest of the Charmed cast. I have seen so many conflicting things there. I just know that had Alyssa not posted anything about Shannen people would have gone after her just as they did when she did post something. There really was no winning there for her.
Alyssa never pretended like she was Shannen's friend and openly admitted there were issues and has apologized for her part in the feud. I really do feel like Alyssa means/meant well. I feel like you can maybe not get along with someone or agree with them and still admire them for certain qualities and wish them well and even feel bad when they leave this world and not have that come from a place of guilt or obligation. Just because you don't always get along with someone or like them doesn't mean you wish death on them or don't respect them. I respect several people I don't like. It's just that our personalities clash and we may not agree on certain things but like and respect don't have to be mutually exclusive. I also respect that Shannen probably doesn't want Alyssa at her funeral and hopefully, Alyssa can respect that too without taking any real offense. It's just a sad situation they'll never be able to get over their differences now assuming they ever would have.
The other death that hit me kind of hard was Richard Simmons. I just remember how I seemed to see him everywhere when I was a kid. He had this positive larger than life personality. I was genuinely shocked when I heard he died. I read that he had a fall and hit his head several hours before he died so I'm kind of curious if that was the cause of his death especially because it seemed so unexpected. He mentioned how he was dying not overly long ago but then clarified he didn't actually mean right now but in a sense that we are all closer to death each day we are alive and how he was diagnosed with skin cancer that was under treatment and didn't seem serious since it sounded like they got it super early before it could spread anywhere.
You never really know anyone let alone celebrities, so you have no clue what someone is going through. We only get to see so much and can only ever really speculate on what's going on in someone's life. We feel like we know celebrities because so much of their life is out there for us to see but we don't see everything. When celebrities die we sit and reflect on what we know about them, and it really does feel like someone we know died. The reality is that we have no clue who they really are or were. There is so much more to people than we'll ever be able to know. There's a lot of good and bad mixed into who these people were. No one is perfect and they lived their lives in similar ways to the rest of us. Poor Shannen spent most of her money on cancer treatments. It's sad when someone who should be a millionaire is going broke trying to survive so imagine what it's like for people who have far less money. That's such a real situation and really made it easier for the rest of us to relate to her and I feel like some of us probably felt like we knew her all the more because of it. At the end of the day though, we don't actually know these people, but they played such a large part of some of our childhoods.

It's sad about both of them. I remember seeing Shannen Doherty on Little House on the Prairie when she was a child. She was in the last Season of that show
And, I actually met Richard Simmons with my Mom and Sister back in the early 80s at a Mall bookstore for a book signing for his new cookbook that had come out.

Yes, those two were great. I posted about them earlier in the week. I can't believe Dr. Ruth finally left us. She was old when I first started seeing on talk shows and that was 30 years ago.
