What If...

Let's say we can safely assume that Joe Biden has completely lost the support of his party. All the way to the top, even former President Barack Obama has said. "I think it is time to reconsider your viability." The top brass from Schumer to Pelosi have said basically for him to step down. Hell, even crazy Robert Deniro might be coming to terms. President Biden continues to insist he's not dropping out. So, the question is, "How do you hold a convention for a candidate no one wants and what message do you send?" How do you call for unity when you yourself are not unified? How do you sport good ideas and strength when your own candidate does not represent that? How do you maintain a positive vibe when your party is in shambles? What happens if every speaker walks on stage and says, "We love you Joe, but you gotta go?" Who will you find to come to the stage to support Joe? If they suddenly show support after so strongly calling for him to drop out, how can they claim they are being genuine? How can they say they aren't lying to the American people? Again, by the way, because everyone knows that they knew Biden was unfit a long time ago. What happens if the crowd chants, "No more Joe," and "Joe's got to go?" What will it look like if Joe is in the race up to the convention and no one believes in him? How many actually show up for the convention? And what message would that send to anyone? Especially after the crowd filled and enthusiastic RNC convention which was clear about their support? If Joe stays in the race and gets to the convention, this may turn out to be one the most awkward and bizarre conventions you would ever see in your life. Imagine Joe at the podium to accept his nomination to a crowd of piles of garbage because everyone had gone home long before he'd speak a word, completely having thrown in the towel?

I may actually have to tune in and watch the DNC. It would be a first for me.

I have watched them before. Like I have said before, I want to know what the other side is saying so I know what I actually disagree with (or agree with). Just because I am a Republican doesn't mean I stop listening to the other side.

I watched the RNC only twice. And only bits and pieces other times.

@JimmyDeen How can you make an informed decision if you don't listen to both sides? That's part of the problem we have in this country. Minds are made up before anyone has the facts.

At the end of the day it's not over until it's over, but I don't think Joe cares. As long as he beats Trump.

The problem is, of course, he can't beat Trump. Unless something DRAMATICALLY changes that won't change. The writing is simply on the wall at this point. There's no way Biden recovers from this. He is as politically damaged as I think anyone has ever been aside from MAYBE Nixon. It's over. All the Democrat party can do now is TRY to pick up the pieces and put them all back together. I don't think they can.

@porwest No, and we're dealing with a delusional man who is considered legally sane.

@kaylachan I think the legally sane part may be waning the more his mental decline comes into view and is being acknowledged. Not that it is even insanity. It's simply a disease and not his fault, of course. I actually feel for him. Even putting him before a convention of his own party who are not fully behind him has to present a very painful moment for him.

I read, I try to understand, I hope for the best but I have nothing to add because I don't know how things will work out,

It seems clear he cannot win. But yes, all we can do is wait and see what happens. Lots could still develop here in the coming days and weeks. This story is not yet over. At least I don't think so.

I sincerely doubt that people would leave before his speech. That's a stretch. The DNC was never boring.

If Biden would have been there as the nominee with no support, even if people didn't leave, the crowds would be small and there'd be a massive and awkward lack of enthusiasm.
