We had free burritos for lunch today

I live in a lifestyle village which has been built over the last few years. I’m not sure how many a ‘few’ is but we’ve been here three years so maybe the first houses were built 5 or 6 years ago. Since we arrived, and IGA has been opened plus a medical practice and now a Mexican take-away, Zambreros. Zambreros is a franchise and the flyer said ‘our’ shop was the 60th to open in Western Australia. They had their grand opening today and gave away 1,060 burritos. We joined the queue for our free meal and joked with the lady handing out the flyers about what would happen if we were the 1,061th customer. She assured us that we’d still get a meal. Although we haven’t had much experience with Mexican food, we enjoyed our burritos and I’m sure we’ll be going back there soon. It’s situated next to IGA and both are within easy walking distance. The photo wasn't taken in Mexico.

I had tried burrito twice during my stay in the US. And I went for the vegetarian one. One was dry from outside with moist and yummy filling of kidney beans and other veggies. I liked it. Next time, I tried in different restaurant and they gave it in a soup. It was all soggy and didn't go well with my liking Here in India, few outlets have dry burrito and they are made to suit the spicy Indian taste. They are actually good. Free yummy lunch... what else can one ask for a wonderful day

@arunima25 It's in the middle of a large comunity of young families, apart from our village, so there should be plenty of customers.

I hope the cafe does well. It's a bonus really having it so close by.

@JudyEv It was a nice gesture by them to give away free burrito in such huge number. I hope that people patronize their business and it runs profitable.

I have only eaten one burrito, while on holiday in the US, and it was so big I couldn't finish it! It was nice though

I was quite impressed. It looked healthy to me - rice, lamb, lettuce, tomato, corn, onion, cheese, plus a variety of toppings and sauce. I chose a bowl rather than a wrap and kept half to eat later.

I love a good burrito. There's a place in California, called East LA. They had the best burritos. You are so lucky to be within walking distance.

We now have a doctors' surgery, a supermarket, a chemist and now a Mexican cafe - all within walking distance.

@JudyEv You are so blessed. We have to go 20 miles just to get anything. We can't even by gas in our community.

What is IGA? I like burritos although I virtually never get take-away meals.

They have IGA in the US so I 'assumed' people would know what it was. Silly me! It stands for Independent Grocers of Australia (or America in the US) - a chain of grocery stores trying to compete with Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, Costco, etc.

I've never tried Mexican foods. But I guess some of them must be delicious.

It wasn't much different to a salad as I didn't have it in a wrap. I guess the sauces and toppings make it Mexican.

@JudyEv Your area reminds me of California. In Germany, I was reminded of the American Midwest.

I can believe it. I sometimes see US photos where the terrain is very similar to ours.

I'm glad you enjoyed a free burrito at the grand opening for the new restaurant. It's been a long time since I've seen an IGA. Lovely picture.

Glad you enjoyed burrito . None of my Australian friends had tasted Mexican food earlier. Burrito is one of the best ones and well most times , I have seen it getting customized for the country . It is actually tortilla with beans and rice and not so spicy sauce , when I had it while in US . But i got the different varieties including spicy ones in India . The veggies in the burritoes were more in India than in US . You should try quesidilla and other varities of burritoes. Thanks for sharing!

Few to me has always been about 3-7 with several starting at 8. But who knows if there is an actual rule about this? But great that your community is becoming more filled with places to go and things to do, useful and fun. As for free burritos? Anything free is good, isn't it?
