Day 184 – Discernment Deuteronomy 18:1 “The priests, the Levites—the entire tribe of Levi—will have no part nor inheritance with Israel; they will eat the offerings of JEHOVAH made by fire, and His portion. 2 Therefore, they will have no inheritance among their brethren; JEHOVAH is their inheritance, as He said to them. 3 This will be the priest’s due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is bull or sheep: they will give to the priest the shoulder, the cheeks, and the stomach. 4 The first fruits of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you will give him. 5 For JEHOVAH your Elohiym chose him out of your tribes to stand to minister in the name of JEHOVAH, him and his sons forever. 6 If a Levite comes from any of your gates, from where he dwells among Israel, and comes with the desire of his mind to the place which JEHOVAH chooses, 7 then he may serve in the name of JEHOVAH his Elohiym as his brethren the Levites do, who stand before JEHOVAH. 8 They will have equal portions to eat, besides what comes from the sale of his inheritance. 9 “When you come into the land which JEHOVAH your Elohiym gives you, you will not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. 10 There will not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For those who do these things are an abomination to JEHOVAH, and because of these abominations JEHOVAH your Elohiym drives them out from before you. 13 You will be blameless before JEHOVAH your Elohiym. 14 For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, JEHOVAH your Elohiym has not appointed such for you. 15 “JEHOVAH your Elohiym will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you will hear, 16 according to everything you desired of JEHOVAH your Elohiym in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of JEHOVAH my Elohiym, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’ 17 JEHOVAH said to me, ‘What they said is good. 18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He will speak to them everything I command Him. 19 It will be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him. 20 However, the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other elohiym, that prophet will die.’ 21 If you say in your heart, ‘How will we know the word which JEHOVAH has not spoken?’ — 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of JEHOVAH, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which JEHOVAH has not said; the prophet spoke it presumptuously; you will not be afraid of him. God’s name: JEHOVAH – Self-existent, Eternal Elohiym – Supreme God Yeshuwa – Jesus Hagios Pneuma – Sacred, Holy, Breath, Spirit Iesous – Jesus Christos – Anointed One, Messiah God’s character: Instructor Prophet Most people know what belongs to them. They know where they can live. They do not need people to tell them what they can and cannot do with what belongs to them. However, there are people who do not have a place and seek a place to call theirs. People also want to know the culture of the place they call home. They want to get along with the people in the city or community where they live. Moses told the people about the culture of the land JEHOVAH gave them. He told them the Levites would not have a portion among the tribes of Israel because JEHOVAH was their portion. He would provide everything they needed, their food, clothing, and home among the tribes of Israel. Moses also told them they were not to follow the customs of the people they would displace, but only follow JEHOVAH their Elohiym. He told them JEHOVAH would raise up a Prophet from among the people and they were to listen to Him. If they didn’t, He would require it of them. Moses also told the people how they would know the Prophet from those who claimed to be prophets. When you accepted Yeshuwa as Savior and Lord, you needed to know what He required of you. The only way to know that is to read and study JEHOVAH’S Word. When you do, you will see how you are to live so you can stay away from those things that corrupt your soul and keep you away from JEHOVAH’S Word. You can also discern those who follow Yeshuwa and those who don’t. When you accepted Yeshuwa, you obtained a new culture, one approved by Elohiym. He set you apart to Him. He provided a place for you to live and grow in Him. Yeshuwa gave you a new identity and expects you to stay away from everything that would destroy your relationship with Him. Yeshuwa not only shows you where you will live, but He also leads you to the place and people where you can learn, study, and grow in Him. Through the Hagios Pneuma, He gives you discernment to keep you from going astray from the gospel of Iesous Christos. Yeshuwa is the person the Prophet Moses told the people about. He will give you understanding to know when someone speaks in His name prophetically, and those who presume to know what Elohiym says. You are not to listen to those who speak presumptuously in Yeshuwa’s name. How will you know? Let the Hagios Pneuma tell you. Seek Him in prayer. Let Him guide you to those who truly follow JEHOVAH, and you will grow in the love and power of Iesous Christos. Let’s pray: Father, open my ears to those who follow You so I can grow in You. Keep those things far from me that could harm my soul and keep me from You. Let me be Your light in the place I live, so others will know You and Your love for them. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. @kobesbuddy I love the Old Testament as much as I like the New Testament. There's lots of meat there.
