I Forgot

So yesterday (Friday) at work, something awesome popped into my head and I thought to myself, "This would be something great to write about on myLot!" But then I got busy and didn't have time to write a discussion about it. Then, when I got home from work, I said to myself, "I should sit down now and write that discussion I was thinking about at work today." But I got busy cooking dinner, doing some laundry and cleaning, and then watching a movie. Late into the night I thought about jumping on myLot for a hot minute, but I was pretty tired, so I just went to bed. I woke up this morning and said, "I better write that discussion now." So I sat down at the computer, and realized I completely forgot about what it was I was going to write about. How frustrating is that? Has that ever happened to you? I've been racking my brain for an hour trying to remember what it was I wanted to write about, all to no avail. I absolutely cannot remember what it was I was excited to write about! Photo has nothing to do with the topic, it's just a photo of my daughter and her best friend being silly on a recent trip to Seattle.

I love the photo, they look like they are as happy as can be and such beautiful scenery. I have thought of a great discussion and forgotten about it so many times, actually more times than I remember to post about it. So what does that say about my memory? Sometimes our brains are too full of stuff.

I like the way you rationalize forgetfulness better than the way I rationalized it! You blame it on our brains being too full of stuff; I blamed it on old age and becoming forgetful. haha I don't write very many discussions on myLot, so I get excited when I finally have something I feel worthy of posting here. Which makes me all the more frustrated that I forgot what I was so excited to write about.

Oh, do I ever agree that are brains are too full of stuff. No wonder so many people long for a simpler life. I have pared things down to mostly basics, and there are days when that even seems overwhelming.

@MarieCoyle I've done quite a bit of paring down too. But still working on simplifying things even more. I definitely don't live the overstimulating life I used to live. Simpler is often better. I'm heading in that direction.

It can happen to the best of us. If it something that REALLY piques my interest, I usually will at least write it down.

The only reason I didn’t write it down was because I was going to sit down at my computer right away and post a discussion. Then I got pulled off in another direction (I was at work at the time) and then by the time I finally got to sit down at my desk, I had already forgotten what it was I wanted to write about.

@porwest Well, I'm the boss, so I didn't really have to worry about somebody saying that to me! lol Of course, I DO have a boss, but I'm in the back of the store in the Receiving Dept., and she spends the majority of her day in her office at the front of the store.

@moffittjc That seems a valid and logical distraction. I'd have just told the boss, "Hold on a sec, I have something I need to write down so when I get back to my desk, I can post this on myLot during work hours." I am sure he would have waited for you to do that. lol

Many a time I know when some have an idea..they not it down quickly. It will probably pop in when you aren't trying to think of it.

I hope so. It will probably pop into my head again when I least expect it (and probably when I am doing something or am somewhere where I can't jot it down). haha

@snowy22315 I will probably wake up tomorrow morning and remember what I was going to write about, and then immediately forget about it again as soon as I get out of bed and use the bathroom!

I'm sorry the topic disappeared. Still, you had a good discussion about why you forgot. Yes, I've forgotten some great topics because I wasn't sitting at my computer when I thought of them.

The weird thing is, I use the Notes app on my phone all the time to jot things down, so I had no excuse for why I didn’t write my idea down so I wouldn’t forget about it later.

@kobesbuddy That's awesome that your mom worked for Boeing! That is really remarkable. I picture Rosie the Riveter from WWII building fighters and bombers for the war effort, although not from the same time period as your mom!

@moffittjc My mother was 18 years old. She took a train out to Seattle, to be with her military husband(DAD). He was shipped to Okinawa for a year. Mom worked at Boeing Aircraft, welding a piece of steel onto the belly of each plane:) She was a remarkable lady!

I think most of us here do the exact same thing, Jeff. We are living our lives. Relationships, work, obligations, life… it’s what we do. Maybe in your case you can put a reminder of your writing ideas on the note section of your phone? It’s probably in your pocket and it just takes a few seconds. Hey, little brother…don’t forget to slow down a bit and smell those sweet roses.

I like your idea of using the notes section of my phone to jot down writing ideas! The funny thing is, I use the notes features frequently for about everything else I do in my daily routine; I don't know why I didn't think about using it for my discussion idea. Speaking of slowing down, yesterday was a very slow day at work, which is why I should have just sat down at my desk and wrote that discussion right away when I thought about it!

@MarieCoyle You've got life pretty figured out. We have to take advantage of opportunities presented to us, no matter how small they may be. Just the other day, as I was leaving work for the day, I looked up into the sky right before I was about to get into my truck, and saw the most beautiful cloud formations. I just stood there for 10 minutes or so staring into the sky and watching those beautiful clouds. It was amazing. Who does that anymore? Nobody it seems. But think back to when we were kids. Did you ever lie on the ground or sit back as a child and just stare up into the clouds, daydreaming perhaps, or imagining what the shapes of the clouds looked like? Why don't we ever do that as adults? Because we don't make time for it. We need to be more like children when it comes to things like that.

@moffittjc Honestly, I have become a note person. There are days that I swear my brain is on overload or more than likely maxed capacity, and if I don’t write things down or make a note on my phone, ideas are gone -they just disappear! Often, we have little pockets of time during the day and it’s up to us to try to use them as we need them. Stressed or tired? Sit for a few minutes and stare into space. Focus on a sight or a picture in your mind that brings you joy and peace. Interact with someone in your life that makes you feel good about who you are . Write your post on mylot. Whatever works and helps you hit the reset button.

You know that has happened to me. Now I keep a small notebook, and pen in my skirt pocket. When I have a thought I write it down. I heard a singer say that years ago. Sometimes, a person can say something worth noting. Hope it comes back to you. I'd like to know what it is. Lol.

@popciclecold It's precisely because I don't post much that I was so excited for the story idea that popped into my head! Sadly, I still haven't remembered what it was I wanted to write about. I'm not going to stress about it too much, I'll just move on and be smarter next time and write down any ideas that pop into my head.

I already use the notes function on my smart phone to jot things down, I don't know why I didn't think to jot down my discussion idea in my notes app. I think it was because I was convinced I was going to sit right down and immediately write about it. But, I was at work at the time, and sometimes things pop up at work that pull you away from whatever it is you are doing or planning on doing. And that's what happened to me yesterday, and by the time I got back around to having time to write a myLot discussion, I had already forgotten what it was that I was going to write about.

@wolfgirl569 I thought about the old age thing. I'm not ready to accept that as the reason why I forget things. I like how Julia said it in her comment, "sometimes our brains are too full of stuff." That's what I'm going to go with. I forget things because my brain is too full, not because I'm getting old! lol

I thought it was a cool picture too. I love how they just stopped on the side of the road and then stood in the middle of the road for a photo opportunity. I sure hope they didn't hold up any traffic while getting the photo. I've been driving myself crazy this morning trying to remember what I was going to write about. I think that thought is lost forever somewhere in the hollowed out cave in my brain!

It can be frustrating when you can't remember something. Especially something you thought was important. But, it happens to all of us in life. Usually nothing to worry about, unless of course it happens continuously (could be signs of Alzheimers or dementia). Thankfully, other the occasional brain fart, my memory still seems to be serving me well.

Yes, I've done this time and time again. Now, if it's at all possible I just write a few words in my myLot Word document to remind me what I want to write about. Sometimes, even that isn't enough to bring it back to mind. That's a cute photo.

Shoulda written it on a piece of paper! I have phases where I am consistently forgetting what I was doing. Oh, oh I got Mit to try a twinkie the other weekend. After like 30 years of him meaning to eat one. Went down a treat.
