I wonder who gets the cents.

I have posted here about some subjects that turn into fights between a couple of mylotters. Lately this happens with politics as years ago it happened with posts about genre. And I wonder if those fight that I just read as I would go and watch a ping pong match mean any tenth of a cent for me. After all, I started the subject. We are a funny species. I can´t imagine us fighting over how much pepper to add to a recipe. Yet a recipe will mean that we will eat one way or another. Politics, religion and the like though will not mean much in our day to day lives. Yet we are passionate about it. Years ago I read in a book that at one time that a paper wrote in its first page about Napoleon had escaped from the Elba island. And on a tiny note inside it was written that a certain Mr. Faraday was going to give a conference on electricity. Now I wonder, who was more important, Napoleon or Faraday? What is more important, an election or a recipe for a pasta sauce?

You know @porwest and I are always up to argue about politics. . . or his idea of a good recipe.

@NJChicaa You are probably right about that. A lot of people think we get angry with each other. I have never gotten mad at you once. Frustrated. But never mad. lol

@porwest Same. I never need someone to agree with me about politics. I enjoy the discussion and bouncing ideas off of each other. I don't get angry or take it personally. I would happily discuss things with my dad because he was smart and was civil even if he did have a red MAGA hat. My mother however is the exact opposite. She is nasty and gets personal if you don't agree with her OANN and Newsmax talking points. She kept trying to draw me in a couple of weeks ago when we were out to breakfast. I understand and respect that her views are the polar opposite of mine. I just choose not to be the target of her nastiness. Like can we just enjoy our French toast and coffee and discuss the weather?

None of it is worth losing friendships over

Exactly. But I do think that with real friends you can argue if you do it with respect.

I have lost friends over politics. It is painful but it was their choice. They can't stand up under pressure so they unfriend or block you for the most trivial reasons. It is not worth going to Facebook jail for. The censorship online is unreal.

If you start the discussion, you should get some of the cents, I would hope. Maybe the others will get some "sense" as well.

Personally I like to keep out of politics. I read and learn but won't get into any discussions, I guess logically an election is much more important than pasta sauce but I would rather read about the pasta sauce,

I talk about politics at home with my friends. But it is not easy to talk about the politics in another country.

Some people are very religious and religion means everything to them. They say that they pray many hours each day.

I had some thoughts on these disagreements earlier. Started thinking, why? We all definitely have our passions in life that we like to talk about. But it hit me hard that so many are trying to actually change someone's mind about the political preferences they have, or who to support, who to vote for, etc. But you know as well as I do, no one, and I believe this, ever changes their mind about things like that just because someone tried to sway them in the other direction on any type of social media. It can cause so many hurt feelings and lost friendships. It's just not worth it.

I am quite angry when someone rings my bell to talk to me about the Bible or to sell me a brand or perfume. In both situations, I know what I want and if I want to look for something else, I will do it when I want to. I confess that I have a fake sentence that is not rude. But inside, I´d like to be left alone.

@MarieCoyle In my country, they even put machines in phone calls in times of elections. I live alone and sometimes I just run for the phone without thinking.

@marguicha People do not seem to realize they are not going to convert someone to their faith with social media posts, either. After all, what we believe is our own affair, not anyone else's.

I don't get into many back-and-forth exchanges of ideas here. Maybe that's why I don't get to see very many pennies. Not that I don't have strong opinions on things.

@koopharper I even worry about translating words. Sometimes you don´t mean to be rude but in another language it sounds awful.

I have heard of that. I would not rinse them, by the way. They would get cold. But I do add some oil.

I try to stay away from politcs and religion. This year, though, the U S's election could mean a lot to me personally. And to Mother Earth. I continue to worry.

From my understanding, and don't take my word on this, if you start a discussion and a couple of myLotters start going back and forth, while you do not earn what you would earn if you were engaged in that conversation, you still earn SOMETHING for that back and forth. Again, don't take my word for it. Either way, it is still engagement and interaction that happened on your discussion and therefore, you are paid a little something for contributing to that. Perhaps GAA could be more clear about what really happens, but at the same time they don't like to discuss much in the way of the details of how we are paid here. Rightly and smartly so, by the way. But I do think you still earn. Just not as much.

@sabtraversa Along the way, I heard that you get a little more pay if you answer a discussion first. I don't know how much but a little. Also, comments are worth more than likes or views but it all works together. Longer comments with information or opinions are better than short comments with no point. I also got tips from people I met on myLot who were willing to help me navigate on the site. The most valuable thing is getting to know people and their thoughts. I might not always agree but some don't agree with me either. I met some lovely people here.

@sabtraversa Controversy has a way of sort of boosting responses and extending conversations...so, yes. Definitely some truth there. lol
