A taste like a memory

For the last week or so I have been able to get some delicious black grapes at our Dillons (Kroger) store. When I was very young we had a house that had grapes and some type of berry clear across the back fence. Both those fruits attracted wasps to their sweetness, but we picked them and ate them anyway. Grapes in the stores almost never have that warm and earthy taste. These do. I was able to get some more today. The packaging does not name the grape variety, though. Some things just do not taste the same as our childhood.

I can relate to that since when I was younger drinking a soft drink was very sweet and tasty. These days they are watered down.

@Deepizzaguy I feel the same way, soft drinks used to be so delicious! Now, as you said, they have been watered down and they don't taste the same:(

I remember as a kid disliking a certain cola, because it was "sharp". Now I would not be able to tell it from anything else.

@GardenGerty Three fruits that grown beautifully in Michigan, peaches, apples and blueberries. Grapes, I'm not sure. California, they have beautiful grape arbors.

They sound delicious, Back in Latvia we had a neighbor who grew purple grapes, He always had too much and each year we could pick a bunch too,

I wonder if thiings did taste different or if it's just our taste buds that alter as we age. Strawberries don't taste the same any more either - at least not to me.

I think with fresh produce it often is hybridized to make it suitable for early harvest, cold storage, and long shipments. Pretty much ends up flavorless. That is why these grapes surprised me.

We had blackberry bushes at the end of our street. All the kids would eat their fill and then bring containers of berries to their families. Have a good week.

Things get cultivated to make them fit mass marketing practices and seem to lose their connection to the earth.

Maybe we tasted things differently, or maybe they were grown differently.
